  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

look Trump has the right to appeal if the higher courts find he cannot do it then so be it. It is not good to depend 100% on the government anyway A it says as much in the name what does the S stand for? and B just like this if you depend on them for your needs they can take it away same applies to section 8 and social security for that matter. The ONLY people the government is 100% liable for their needs are people in government custody ( and yes some people turn to that option and I understand that.

Bessant said they weren't going to appeal.

The USDA wrote in its September 30th shutdown plan: “Multi-year contingency funds are…available to fund participant benefits in the event that a lapse occurs.” Two weeks later it was deleted, and the fund was suddenly “not legally available.” Why would the Trump administration now say it's "not legally available" when it was legally available just weeks earlier, according to the administration, and also during the previous shutdown under Trump during his first term? You don't find this administration's actions to be vindictive and cruel?

There is a rumor circulating that the funds aren't actually there because they have been spent for something else. I haven't seen that from a source I trust tho.

Bessant said they weren't going to appeal.
so did they say when the benefits would be out ( I am not on SNAP so in that sense it does not matter to me, but just wondering as the judge asks for details as to how they planned to do it.

Go ahead and prove what was shown in the video can't and doesn't happen.
The items shown off definitely don't add up to $1500, for one.

When he wants to wield unstoppable power he doesn't let laws get in his way.

But when people are hungry and malnourished he uses the law as an excuse. And that's the real, un"alternative" facts.
Again, nothing in that post is factually accurate.

Can one buy lots of junk food on SNAP or not?
yes they can I do not believe they should be able to but yes they can for now. Some states are cutting some of that out next year.

Here's one of the problems with SNAP (1 minute video):

He's not wrong about the processed foods, but he is speaking from a place of privilege.

That woman went shopping at a warehouse club, most people using snap go to regular stores or Walmart.

Some people live in food deserts where fresh produce is scarce or extremely expensive.

Some don't have their own transportation so they rely on public transportation, Uber or the generosity of family and friends. This means weekly trips are difficult for fresh items, they need items that have long shelf lives and that can withstand trips in the heat.

Fake juice is always less expensive than real juice. Doesn't have to be refrigerated. All juice is sugar but many dont realize it's 2% juice and a bunch of sugar, some of thst stuff is marketed as healthy, it has vitamin c after all.

People opt for filling foods even if less nutritious.

The crops farmers get subsidies for are the bulk of the items people are eligible to purchase.

They dont show these videos.

It's doubtful anyone is getting 1500.00. The maximum for a family of 4 is 973 per month, less depending on income.

That's 32.00 per day. 8.10 per person per day. So less than 3.00 per meal per person, assuming 3 meals per day.

What is the point as I red where it could take weeks or even months.

I'm sure Walmart and other retailers are giving the GOP an earful. It wont take weeks. They are messing with donor money.

So what happens if it were to take weeks anyway or months what's the point they may as well not fund which if you depend on the government this is the risk you take. If you allow the government to provide for your every need they can pull it. There is ONE group that the government is responsible for their every need people in government custody. Other than that it is not on the government to provide for you and even if they do it is not on them to provide everything.

You also have people working multiple jobs that have to be able to put something together fast or kids that have to cook for themselves when parents are working. So its convenience vs scratch cooking out of necessity.

Also many schools no longer have Home Ec. So when you have kids born to young mothers who were born to young mothers who were born to young mothers, who didn't get basic living skills such as cooking something that doesn't come in a box they have to do what they have the knowledge to do. Most people are doing the best they know how to do and don't always have the benefit of the wisdom or influence of elders. People who grow up in foster care or have family tensions may not have anyone at all.

does not change the fact that if you depend on the government to provide everything they can take it away, NOR does it change the fact that box stuff is not healthy and that WILL catch up with people at some point.

If congress doesn’t want to raise the minimum wage and insist people are paid a living wage this is what we get.

If we are going to insist women give birth whether they want to or not, the least we can do is feed the children.

I personally don't mind my tax dollars helping my fellow man. The Bible tells us to take care of the poor.

Proverbs 19:17"Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed."

There are two different food programs i donate to each month. It's not much, but I hope if I'm ever in need someone will do the same for me.

Too many people are so worried about someone "undeserving" being helped that they are willing to let everyone else struggle, suffer and starve. That is the wrong focus imo. You get blessings for helping people. You dont get those blessings voided because you helped someone who was running a con.

If you want to stop people who don't need help from getting over, rescind the tax cuts for the wealthy.

I never once said that people cannot or should not give to the poor or help those who struggle. I said that it is not the GOVERNMENT'S job to do so.

I dont disagree, but that's where we are. You can talk about how things should be or you can deal with the situation as it really is. If you want to remedy it dems are looking for people like you to support their push for a living wage, affordable healthcare, affordable child care, affordable schooling, education and job training programs, bringing manufacturing back, expanding public transportation to be able to work outside the immediate area etc.

sounds like you are still putting things on the government to push for things.
