  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think the stalemate may end soon.
Why?
Democrats poised to win NYC mayor, Virginia and NJ governor, and more. They have also won some special elections.
People are mad their benefits were scrubbed to finance billionaire tax breaks.
Polls show Americans are getting smart.
Enrollment for ACA begins in a few days. A stampede of 26 million angry people.
The number of voters with kick me signs will be dwindling.
We shell see the state level has nothing to do with the federal level. As far as just because the democrats win those does not mean the scalemate ends the state ( or city level leaders do not vote.

but that was not what that is for that is for true emergencies things that NO ONE could have helped not congress having the government closed.
Maybe you missed this post where I quoted you earlier.

The natural disaster excuse is what the Trump administration was using as a defense to block funds from being used to continue SNAP benefits. There was no basis for this claim, and the administration's actions were found to be illegal.

Below is a document that was issued during Trump's first administration that proves they knew all along that the SNAP contingency fund could be used towards keeping benefits from lapsing during a shutdown.

Should States continue normal SNAP operations after completing the early issuance process?

States must continue accepting applications and determining eligibility for SNAP. Limited funding within the SNAP contingency reserve is available for these cases; it is for this reason that it is so critical that States issue their regular ongoing benefits by January 20th.

FNS is committed to minimizing the impact of the appropriations lapse on SNAP households and directing the limited funding available from the contingency that can be used toward normal SNAP operations, including the issuance of benefits for new applicants in February, should the Federal government shutdown continue.

How should States handle new applications that are determined eligible for February benefits if they will not receive a combined allotment in January?

Limited funding within the SNAP contingency reserve is available for these cases; it is for this reason that it is so critical that States issue their regular ongoing benefits by January 20th. States should handle new applications for February benefits according to normal procedures.

I don't forget Trump propaganda. I just add it to the list of falsehoods. May each one come back to haunt him and his puppets in upcoming elections.

TRAFFICKED, EXPLOITED, AND MISSING: MIGRANT
CHILDREN VICTIMS OF THE BIDEN-HARRIS
ADMINISTRATION Joint Hearing NOVEMBER 19, 2024
"As the administration's border crisis continues to spiral
out of control, the number of unaccompanied minors arriving at
the Southwest Border has increased greatly, turning the
situation at the border into a devastating humanitarian
catastrophe. In fact, the Biden-Harris administration has
encountered nearly 530,000 alien children at the border to
date. In comparison, the Trump administration had less than
half that number over the same period of time.
I think America, we should ask ourselves, why are so many
children arriving at the border alone and afraid, sometimes in
the hands of an unconfirmed relative with no apparent
indications of family connection? These children show up with
arbitrary phone numbers and addresses scribbled on their arms
as if they're, like, packaging arriving at someone's warehouse
or doorstep. Some children that arrive at the border appear to
be drugged, preventing law enforcement authorities from
properly questioning them about those they're traveling with.
This is outrageous, and it's an affront to the very core
principles that form the morality of any decent nation.
Certainly, Americans should not accept this moving forward.
The purpose of this hearing is to put some hard facts on
the table so that we can work together on both sides of the
aisle and address actual solutions.
The Biden-Harris administration has stated that they have
the most humanitarian border policies in history, yet we
witness these horrors that are happening, and there's nothing
humanitarian about enabling criminal cartels to exploit, abuse,
and profit from vulnerable children."

If that were legal it still would not even cover a full month.
Nevertheless, the money (such as it is) is available for that purpose.

Wow, the poster mentioned propaganda and you counter with the false claim of all these missing children under Biden being trafficked.

Which is more humane? Adhering to the asylum laws and providing an opportunity for families and kids to get out of their life challenging situations just as everyone else has come to America in the past? Or shutting that door, and not only shutting that door but narrowing those opportunities based on the color of one's skin?

People are turning their backs to the horrors created by allowing so many unvetted individuals into our country. Suffering humans exploited for more votes, victims of terrible crimes. It will take our country many years to recover, all because of greed and lust for more power and control.

No one going through the asylum process is unvetted. You didn't answer my question. Which is more humane?

It's not humane to exploit people under the guise of asylum. The abuse of the system and abuse of the border laws that took place under the Biden administration must never be allowed to happen again.

At some point, another Democratic president will likely be in office, and asylum laws will be used as they were during the Biden, Obama, Bush, and the first Trump administrations.

The Trump administration is not changing any laws to stop future asylum seekers from using them.

To correct your assumption, it will happen again—it's just a matter of time before the next Democrat takes office.

The emergency is people are about to lose their benefits.
but that is not the type of "emergency" that was meant to address only things that no one could do anything about not things like the government being shut down because BOTH sides will not move In short, this was not meant to address "created" "emergencies" only ones that could not be helped or controlled.

Asylum laws are great. Our country never before saw such widespread abuses of the law by one administration. We are just beginning to recover. These are dangerous times and I cannot predict the future.

so what happens when another emergency comes up or December rolls around?
Maybe the Speaker will finally convene the House again and get something done. Not very likely, it's true.

except that it is hung up in the senate number one and number two the republicans in the senate have voted to re-open the government it is the democrats that will not join them and as 53 is less than 60 they cannot do it alone ( or at least they would be stupid to do so because turnabout is fair play. In other words if they forced it through then the democrats could force through whatever if they were in control by the same margin there is a reason for the 60 votes.

I can predict future; if a Democratic president takes office in 38 months, they will follow the same pattern as previous presidents over the last 50 years by allowing asylum seekers to remain in the USA until their court applications are decided.

So nothing will change!
