CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That's incorrect. SNAP benefits can, and always have, continued during a shutdown. The correct answer is Trump and Republican leadership. The Senate majority leader even refused to vote on a proposal to keep SNAP funded brought forward by a Republican senator and 11 Republican co-sponsors.

1) You don't need to be in power to put forward bills (you know that right?). You certainly don't need "all the power".
2) Did they vote in support of the Democrats plan to feed 40million Americans?
No?
Did it happen?
No.
Then they still have the power and they used it to stop food getting distributed.

Nope. It only takes 5 democrats to stop playing politics, and allow the government to reopen. They choose politics and "leverage" instead of the poor.

Trying to keep the government funded? Yes.
Allowing the requirement of 60 votes being needed to do that? Yes.
Contrast that with Schumer and the democrats claiming to care so much about the poor--and now denying funding for their food.

They did in the Big Beautiful Bill. Which was passed in both house and senate and signed into law July 4, 2025
This closure by Chuck Schumer wants 1.5 trillion added to the budget because they said so. It was defeated in the legislature, so they are resorting to strong arming

Or perhaps you just missed several of my posts that discuss that Democrats put forward a solution to fund SNAP and Republicans ignored it?
In any case, it's pretty clear that Republicans are the culprits denying SNAP; that really can't be denied by rational people anymore given the steps they are taking to stop it.
Let's see if Trump listens to the judge insisting on partial funding at least......

There was already a way fund to fund SNAP and the democrats are blocking it. It's called voting Yes to reopen the government. The Democrats continue to lay aside that option and continue to vote no.
Stop trying to complicate what is very simple.
