  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

President Trump says he'll cut tariffs on China after meeting with Xi Jinping

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump said he reached an agreement with Chinese President Xi Jinping on soybean purchases, fentanyl precursors, and rare earth exports, paving the way for a finalized trade deal to be signed "pretty soon" that he said would last for at least a year and result in an immediate reduction in tariffs.

China will immediately begin purchasing "tremendous amounts" of soybeans and other agricultural products from the United States, the president told reporters flying with him on Air Force One.

A deal, Trump said, was also reached to keep China's proposed export controls on rare earth minerals from taking effect. "That roadblock is gone now. There's no roadblock at all on rare earth," he explained

The first American President to be awarded the countries highest honor and all you can do is try to minimize it?
Well, yeah, when the claim is that an honor is especially high, it's perfectly valid to look at the conditions under which it's bestowed. It looks like it's handed out to each new SK president and then to various other heads of state whenever the SK president feels like it.

Nope. I've seen the proof. I'm just not sharing it with you.
LOL - well nanny nanny boo boo to you too! - so much better than backing your opinion with facts.

If it was Biden - would you be saying the same? Of course not, but it is Trump and even a nations highest award given in thanks has to be degraded to as close to useless as possible.

Sure I would. I think the Kennedy Center awards and Presidential Medals of Freedom are both kind of meaningless - they're basically awards for being famous. And while there had been other questionable recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize in the past, Obama's was the first in my adult life that made me question the significance of it.

I've been on teams that have won industry-specific awards and have a lot of friends who've won other big ones you've definitely heard of (e.g. Oscar/BAFTA tech awards). Those awards are a lot more meritocratic than this SK thing, and even then, a lot of times winning or even being nominated is more about timing and voters'/judges' awareness than it is actual merit. They're not entirely meaningless, but they are at least somewhat arbitrary. So, I don't put a lot of stock in awards unless the governing body has demonstrated a tradition of high standards for them.

When a foreign country honors a politician or president, it may be more of a diplomatic gesture toward improving relations with the U.S. than a personal recognition.

Foreign governments usually recognize the country, not its president. Right-wing media has criticized perceived disrespect toward Obama and Biden abroad, just as liberal media did with Bush and Trump.

Is it plausible to suggest that a nation such as Japan, or even a major power like China, would host the President of the United States without extending appropriate respect? Such conduct would likely result in a significant diplomatic crisis between the countries involved.

Internal debates between Republicans and Democrats about how American presidents are treated overseas often reflect partisan perspectives that overlook larger issues and basic facts.

The Art of Letting Trump Claim a Win, While Walking Away Stronger

By withholding soybean purchases and rare-earth exports, China extracted relief from U.S. tariffs and delayed export controls, without conceding much in return.
Trump gets to come back to the US and declare victory because China will now potentially by US soybeans from US farmers; something they always have been doing before Trump took office. How's that for a victory? It is clear from here on out US farmers relying on China to buy soybeans is in jeopardy seeing China has no reason to trust the voters of the US to put in a competent leader with vision. It's why they increased purchasing from Argentina and Brazil, and will continue to ween themselves off the US. But its too late for a lot of US farmers as with Trump tariff raising equipment costs, feed costs, fertilizer costs, and soy cost drops, they are already under. They play the long game, we play wack-o-Moe.

My opinion is fact and easy to find on line. Too many Trump loyalists refuse to acknowledge facts, when provided, so why bother, if they aren't interested enough to look it up.

Lots of juxtaposing going on - you made the assertion - it's up to you to provide the proof - but obviously that is not possible. And you hit the nail on the head - 'if fact" - until you present fact - it is just your opinion. Thanks for sharing.

The agreement in principle was reached after Trump met with Xi for one hour and forty minutes at a South Korean summit, where they were expected to resolve differences on soybeans, critical minerals, and fentanyl, as well as discuss Russia's war in Ukraine.
Xi said both sides had reached a consensus to resolve "major trade issues," according to a readout of his remarks published on state media Xinhua News Agency.
Xi said the agreement amounted to a "reassuring pill" for both countries' economies. "China and the United States can jointly demonstrate the responsibility befitting of major powers, working together to accomplish more significant, practical and beneficial undertakings for both nations and for the world."

Sorry, I didn't proof read. It was supposed to say, "is fact".

sorry - your say so is not sufficient to establish fact.

You made the claim and refuse to support it - that is plain for all to see -
