CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If you want to align yourselves with a country in S.E. Asia to prevent them cozying up to their communist neighbours, then don't drop more bombs on them then were used in the entirety of the Second World War.

Aside from humanitarian aid to other nations, if America was nationalist & isolationist, the USA would be stronger and less sullied. The leftists and neocon power mongers are united in their perpetual meddlings that destabilize the world and waste America away from within.
The late liberal left Princeton professor Stephen Cohen ( who I referenced in post #35)was a rare example of someone from the left who saw that Trump was trying to get America out of foreign entanglements ( gee what a crazy idea held by that crazy guy George Washington). Well now we have business as usual with renewed foreign conflicts and domestic crime flourishing.
The current vice president herself criticized the isolation policy of the Trump administration when debating former Vice Pres Mike Pence. She said everything would be wonderful with Iran as our ally just like it has turned out with Hamas I guess ( regardless of whatever opinion you may have on the current Gaza War with Israel).

The US backed the Khmer Republic who were fighting the Khmer Rouge. But Kissinger's bombing campaign resulted in a massive death toll to the rural civilians. So who are they going to support? Well, we know it wasn't much of a choice. And we know the horrifying results. I've visited the killing fields and it takes some time to process the horror. And a long time to get over it.
It's my position that Kissinger was directly responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of Cambodians. And partly responsible for the rise of Pol Pot.

I was just a teen during the Viet Nam War and had no interest in world affairs. Even the draft did not worry me yet. So Kissenger and Nixon decided to secretly bomb Cambodia without congressional approval. Wow! And then the protests and Kent State shootings. Troubled times.
