  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Bill Gates, the Microsoft co-founder who has spent billions of his own money to raise the alarm about the dangers of climate change, is now pushing back against what he calls a “doomsday outlook” and appears to have shifted his stance on the risks posed by a warming planet.

he wrote. “People will be able to live and thrive in most places on Earth for the foreseeable future.”

It arrives a week before world leaders gather in Belém, Brazil, for the United Nations annual climate summit, known this year as COP30. Mr. Gates, who turned 70 on Tuesday and has attended the event in previous years, will not be participating.

Is it safe to say then, that the climate change emergency, was science fiction? And that the scientists used biased models in their data sets?

...Or was this a political lever the whole time?

WHO LIED TO US..???? And WHY..??

Is it safe to say then, that the climate change emergency, was science fiction?
No. It's real and it's happening. Perhaps the key words here are "the foreseeable future" and "immediate demise". This is a long term problem, not like a giant meteor crashing into the earth.
And that the scientists used biased models in their data sets?
No, that's not it. The models do not predict the immediate cessation of humankind. Even if millions die because of this, there are still billions more reproducing.
...Or was this a political lever the whole time?
Politics are, of course, involved but that doesn't make it false.
WHO LIED TO US..???? And WHY..??
Whoever told you that the prediction was the immediate death of mankind lied to you.

Probably a combination of over-exaggeration and politics.

It's not too late to make things worse! I'm sure we can push it to an extinction-level event if we try. Don't give up.

"Climate change" - aka "global warming" is a fact. The crisis was and is a HOAX and what I call "urban legend." IMO, the reasons for the alarms were:
1. To panic people (herd them to doing things) that would make the alarmists rich (the ones smart enough to invest in it).
2. To obtain political power for propagating their agenda.

We know for certain that the alarmists continue their propaganda in the media because the "science" follows the money - if they admit they were wrong, they get defunded. And certain people of the alarmist party actually did make millions from the crisis hoax.

We also know that the alarmists continue to exaggerate and propagate big fat lies because they see their cause being abandoned by more and more people who are being properly educated. They see their political power fading.

Strawman. Scientists didn't say it would lead to humanity's demise. They said it would lead to more frequent major hurricanes. It has.

Or 'devastaing consequences'. It will.

Exclusive: ‘Devastating consequences’ now inevitable but emissions cuts still vital, says António Guterres in sole interview before Cop30
Well, they were claiming that over a million species would become extinct, and a prominent UN official proclaimed to the Associated Press that: "entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels" by the year 2000.

Yeah, that would be the “entire nations” that exist on islands and coastal areas barely above sea level.

Date aside, is that really such a controversial claim?

Unless you can document that 'they' claimed H. sapiens was among them, this is irrelevant to your initial claim.

No. Because someone you appear to trust said:

'“...climate change will have serious consequences — particularly for people in the poorest countries...'

And said it in the very article to which you linked. But hey, the consequences to you might not be so serious, so if you're ok and it's only going to affect all those poor people then what's the problem?

James Hansen predicted that burning all existing fossil fuels "would make most of the planet uninhabitable by humans"... I know most of the planet is not all the planet, so I guess Gates built kind of a strawman, but even then, sources say we've already burned half of earth's supply, and all we've seen so far are a couple tennis court size islands go underwater.

You tell me that you don't care about people who will be affected by the problem as long as it's not you.

I'll be nonplussed by that and struggle to find a response that stays within forum rules.

Well, that's a relief. Not everyone will die in the near future, just many people and the rest will suffer.

Wouldn't want mankind to go too quickly and painlessly. We don't deserve that.
