  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Speaker Johnson describes planned No Kings rally as ‘hate America,’ ‘pro-Hamas’ gathering

If Speaker Johnson is upset by his mistaken belief that protesters "hate America," then he should use his position to make America a country that we can love and be proud of.

Every day he waits makes the makeover we need more extreme.

lol Trump was not elected by a landslide and has high approvals.
For a protest republicans keep characterizing as "about nothing," and pointless that accomplished nothing, well, they sure seem to go on about that a lot, don't they?

It's almost like they're trying very hard to convince someone of something.

It is the subject of the thread isn’t it?

Sure. It just struck me how hard certain people are pushing the narrative that these protests are "about nothing," or are pointless, or are accomplishing nothing. Granted, Johnson is pushing a slightly different narrative, but it seems to me a lot of work is being done by republicans to completely reframe what the protests claim to be about.

Something to think about, I suppose.

The use of terms such as "radical left," "Marxist," or "anti-American" by certain members of the Republican Party to describe the Democratic Party does not change the fundamental nature of the Democratic Party.
No, but the Democratic Party has fundamentally changed. The Radical left has most cerrainly gained a lot of influence over the party. The fact that Mamdani is so strong, AOC has sided with Sanders and we have radical leftist governors like in Minnesota is evidence if this. We've seen how the Democratic party has moved further left all the time. Its not hard to prove that.

The whole affair was, I imagine, frightening to the Conservatives. Violence and looting that they knew how to respond to, were hoping for, did not materialize. The number of demonstrators and especially their discipline was awesome.
Nah, a bunch of old liberals who were joined by a bunch of purple and pink haired liberals and people dont frighten us unless they do turn violent.

I honestly didn't think it would. Last year it was peaceful. There was no reason to expect that it wouldn't be again federally speaking as long as the leftist radicals didn't cause problems.

Yea, those radicals dressed up in inflatable costumes. They must be the "radical left"! ROFL
Not every one of them is a violent radical. It would really be bad if they were. But there were plenty of radicals radicals there.

Similar statements can be made regarding political rights. While we may hold differing viewpoints, it is important to recognize that terms such as "extreme left," "extreme right," "radical," "fascist," "Marxist," or "Nazi-like" are often used provocatively or in place of substantive arguments. Such language does not contribute to a rational or constructive debate.

Yes, they do love America but see a different path needed to fix our problems than you agree with.

You might want to review American history. The nation has changed constantly since its founding, with 27 constitutional amendments so far. Laws have been revised regarding freedom, voting rights, racial integration in schools, and seating on public transportation and many , many other issues. The United States has experienced continual legal and social changes over time. And we will keep doing this as we move forward.

Yea, I had the same thought when the Speaker went out of his way to characterize the No Kings protestors....one week prior to the protest.

People who love America must constantly endeavor to improve it. If Europe does certain things better than we do, why not adopt them?

Don't forget that Johnson is a self-declared Christian Nationalist. Naturally, he thinks anybody who hates that idea "hates America."
