  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Former CNN anchor Don Lemon also recently suggested ICE agents enforcing the law should be shot.

Isn’t that what the second amendment is for?
It's what a lot of prominent people have been urged to stop, to stop the violent rhetoric which they know may very well push people who are mentally on the edge into action. We have seen these tactics used against President Trump and conservative Supreme Court justices as well.

So how does one protect themselves against a tyrannical government?

Buy a lot of Trump watches, Trump shoes, Trump coin, Trump trading cards, and pick up a membership or two at one of the many fine Trump golf course located throughout the world.

The people should be able to practice their religion freely, speak freely, keep their weapons, have regular elections, have a small government, the courts should be fair and just, and transparency and accountability are vital. Congress, for example, is not required to release records to the public.
And the executive branch agencies routinely keep information classified. Automatic declassification at fifty years would be a start with a few minor exceptions would be a start.

Would removing people who have no authorization to be here be considered "tyrannical"?

prioritizing the ruler's interests over the welfare of the governed

unrestrained use of authority or power, resulting in unfair treatment of the governed by those in authority

If someone is still a citizen of another country, are they "governed" by a leader in the US?

If I went to snuck into Canada and they caught me, would I have any valid justification in claiming they're "tyrannical" if they tried to send me packing back to Ohio?

Go back and read what he says. His message is for black and brown Americans, not people here illegally. Non citizens and the undocumented are already barred from legally purchasing a firearm so this doesn’t apply to them. This government isn’t being tyrannical towards people breaking the law here. It hasn’t sent its military and federal forces into foreign countries, they’re being deployed to American cities, to intimidate American citizens.

They’re just lucky to be picking on people who aren’t really the militia “don’t tread on me” Gadsden flag types.

What’s that song lyric, “try that in a small town!”

Do you honestly believe they're being sent to intimidate law-abiding citizens?

Now that is a good second amendment argument.

In the context of this thread, it would not be deemed tyrannical for the governement to remove those who are here illegally. Immigration law and enforcement is a legitimate function of government and had been supported by the Supreme Court as Constitutional.

If you as an individual just decided to say its tyrannical then you would be incorrect.

Are they? Is that the purpose? Or are they being deployed to protect the agents from a rebellious froup of people who are trying to prevent the agents from doing their Constitutionally supported jobs and using violence to do so? From what I've seen its needed. They could all stay home if the radical left would stop obstructing and acting violent.

That’s not what Don Lemon is talking about though. He’s making the point for people to protect themselves from a government’s armed forces.

How does that work? Explain it to me, 2A proponents.
