  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

World leaders congratulate Trump on bringing Israeli hostages home

“I reiterate my thanks for the tireless diplomatic efforts of the United States, Egypt, Qatar and Turkey. It is now crucial that we work together to implement President Trump’s peace plan for Gaza, and that will be my focus in Egypt today,” Starmer wrote.

If I showed up at a left-wing rally and said "I'm a fan of giving people equal marriage rights, I'm a big fan of separation of church and state, but I'm a capitalist, and think you guys need to tone it down on the various 'critical theories' and that borders are still important", I'd get a urine bottle whipped at my head and told that I'm a fascist.
This would never happen.

I had ignored your fantasy conflict scenario the first time around, but someone else quoted it, so...

The problem in your fantasy is that you are going to a leftist rally and talking like an establishment liberal. They don't like your sort (or mine) in leftist town. No room for capitalists there. I don't know why they'd waste a precious bottle of urine on you when they are saving it to recycle. Someone in black block might kneecap you if you don't catch a clue and leave when they start jeering at you.

The mistake that this scenario (and so many posters on this site and other places like Twitter) makes is to confuse leftists with liberals and progressives. The serious people in politics that hold positions similar to the leftists (like Bernie or AOC), know that they have cooperate and work towards incremental change to their desired goals.

See, that's the thing. I see Trump as a charismatic anomaly. After he's gone, his personal movement is gone. There may be populists who carry some similar ideas, but they'll look back at Trump and cringe too.
That’s where P2025 comes in. It hardly matters how cringe-inducing this administration gets when their plan is to never again relinquish power.

“President @realDonaldTrump has done it again!” Orban wrote. “A tremendous achievement. President Trump has made it happen, and if we do not fall for the pro-war siren calls, he will get it done in Ukraine as well. We must give him all the support he needs for that.”

  • Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi: “I spoke with my friend, President Trump, and congratulated him on the success of the historic Gaza peace plan. We also reviewed progress in trade negotiations”
Everyone speaks with their "friend" Donald Trump - because he's the biggest bully in the international playground!

That's self-evident!

Behind the scenes?

The world is appalled by this man!

All Trump has done is:-
* break the law and become America's first convicted felon President,
* defraud New York City of real estate taxes to the tune of nearly half a billion dollars,
* harass and assault women,
* hang out with Jeffrey Epstein and then repeatedly promise to release the Epstein files the moment he got into office,
* and then stubbornly, repeatedly refuse to release the Epstein files the moment he got into office,
* dog whistle to the "Proud boys, stand back and stand by",
* paint every immigrant as being either insane, a criminal, or a rapist,
* inflame racism across the USA with his constant harping on about immigrants - even using the phrase 'poisoning the blood of the nation',
* deny due democratic process in the 2020 election,
* shout this Big Lie so loud and wide and often across the land it incited an attempted insurrection on Jan 06,
* attack free speech and call any critical media article 'fake news',
* demand comedians get banned from their networks,
* reduce access to the Press Room for balanced objective media like Reuters,
* threaten NATO, threaten to let Putin do 'whatever the hxxx he wants',
* largely defund Ukraine trying to defend itself,
* embarrass America and what it stands for with that sulky tantrum with Zelenskyy in the Oval Office,
* completely misread Putin and think their 'bromance' would result in peace,
* but instead he gave the dictator and war-monger the red carpet treatment - which resulted in NOTHING,
* threaten 'vengeance' on political opponents,
* weaponize the DOJ with a tinfoil hat conspiracy theorist at the top & the same for sub-departments like the FBI,
* put an anti-vaxxer in charge of health,
* pull out of any climate agreements,
* lie about climate science and climate scientists - and spread conspiracy theories that result in climate scientists getting death threats,
* threaten to invade Greenland if necessary, absorb Canada, invade the Panama Canal, and generally act like an entitled bully on the world stage,
* whack illegal and vengeful tariffs on any nation he felt was 'unfair' (not understanding that buying cheap products was its own reward),
* appoint a reality-denying Fox News host Pete Hegseth as head of the military to fire any 'woke' Generals and Admirals who would not swear allegiance to their domestic political agenda,
* fire missiles on Venezuelan boats - whether they knew precisely who was in those boats or not,
* lie about Democrat cities being 'on fire' and 'looking like something from WW2.'
* illegally invade US cities with the National Guard!
* support Israel over the Palestinians for a disproportionately long time, enabling tens of thousands of deaths to occur under his watch,

I cannot help but wonder how people would think and behave differently if they just spent an equal amount of time making a list of positives.

Ha ha ha ha ha!

Do you KNOW who you are quoting? What his reputation is?

Dude - it's like accepting praise from Vladimir Putin.

Come on - it's been 5 minutes since Trump gave Putin the red carpet treatment to validate this dictator for absolutely NOTHING in return - how about he welcomes another dictator across to shake hands and make silly speeches? Don't all the demagogues need to hang out now and then? Surely Trump should offer the same red carpet treatment to Orban - he might feel left out otherwise! ;)
(He's the reason Hungary is almost on the verge of being kicked out of the EU.)

Oh come on, he was the opening speaker for CPAC in 2022. That's hardly dictator quality.

Oh how he wants to be loved as much as Putin - who always gets elected!

Here is what some of Australia's politicians have said about Trump.
Back in 2016:

"I know I am not the only one relieved that with every passing day, with every disgusting, demeaning comment Mr Trump makes, the possibility of him being president fades. By his own words and his own actions, he has confirmed the worst fears of millions in the United States and beyond its borders – he is entirely unsuitable to be leader of the free world."
Mr Shorten has also described Mr Trump as "barking mad", a comment Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said was an "ill-judged remark".
"You can imagine how Australians would feel if an American president were to describe one of our prime ministerial aspirants as barking mad," he told reporters in Brisbane.
"You can imagine the ill-will and resentment that would create in Australia."

Here is how former PM Malcolm Turnbull describes Trump. 5 minutes.

– The Hon Malcolm Turnbull AC, 29th Prime Minister of Australia, in conversation with Nobel Prize-winning economist Professor Joseph Stiglitz & Dr Emma Shortis, Director of International & Security Affairs at the Australia Institute.

Trump is the "ultimate narcissistic blustering bully!"

Gosh - every time I watch this I wish Malcolm had been in Labor. He's a funny storyteller - and actually believes in climate change - imagine that? (Big step for a conservative in the coal-loving Australian conservative parties.)

Well, fine wine has to be locked away in a dark cold place so I'm good with doing that to Trump.

The libs are a ship of fools right now. None of them could hold a candle to Turnbull. A brilliant mind. He was my MP (Wentworth). I actually came close to voting for him.

Forget world opinion for a moment - these are all quotes from people in high positions of the former Trump administration - before the hiring policy changed from "Can the person do the job?" to "Can the person sing Trump's praises and say black is white and give Trump all the narcissistic feed he needs, no matter how crazy he gets?" (Which is now the job description entitling tinfoil hat conspiracy theorists to lead the FBI, etc.)

"Trump is a person who admires autocrats and murderous dictators. A person that has nothing but contempt for our democratic institutions, our Constitution and the rule of law…
… is not truthful regarding his position on the protection of unborn life, on women, on minorities, on evangelical Christians, on Jews, on working men and women. A person that has no idea what America stands for and has no idea what America is all about."

-- John Kelly, Retired four-star Marine Corps general and Trump's former chief of staff.

"…is a serious threat to US national security... is refusing to protect vital US interests from active Russian attacks. It is apparent that he is for some unknown reason under the sway of Putin"
-- Barry McCaffrey, Retired four-star Army General

“Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people — does not even pretend to try... We must reject and hold accountable those in office who would make a mockery of our Constitution"

James Mattis, Retired four-star Marine general who served as Trump's defence secretary.

“…
[With Trump] We saw the absence of leadership, really anti-leadership, and what that can do to our country.”
-- H.R. McMaster retired US Army three-star general and Trump's former national security advisor

“Donald Trump isn’t religious, has no need of religion, and doesn’t care about the devout, except insofar as they serve his political needs."
General John Allen, the former commander of American forces in Afghanistan.

“I think he’s unfit for office… He puts himself before country. His actions are all about him and not about the country. And then, of course, I believe he has integrity and character issues as well.”

-- Mark Esper, Retired lieutenant colonel and Trump's former secretary of defence.

"The President
[Trump] has very little understanding of what it means to be in the military, to fight ethically or to be governed by a uniform set of rules and practices,”
-- Richard V. Spencer, Retired United States Marine Corps captain and former Navy Secretary.

“I believe that anyone who puts themselves over the Constitution should never be president of the United States... And anyone who asked someone else to put them over the Constitution should never be president of the United States again.”

-- Mike Pence. Trump's former vice president.

“He
[Trump] will always put his own interest and gratifying his own ego ahead of everything else, including the country’s interest.”
-- Bill Barr, Trump's former attorney general.

“Fundamentally, a second Trump term could mean the end of American democracy as we know it, and I don’t say that lightly.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin, former Trump White House communications director.

"Someone who continually disrespects the sacrifices of military families has no business being commander in chief,"

-- Nikki Haley, Trump's former United Nations ambassador.

“The stunning thing about the number of senior Trump administration officials who’ve campaigned against him I think proves that it really is Trump’s flawed character, lack of knowledge, lack of philosophy, lack of fitness that has them concerned,” …
…"I don't think he's fit for office. I don't think he has the competence to carry out the job." --

-- John Bolton, Trump's former national security adviser.

“There has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump.”
-- Former Vice President Dick Cheney
