  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Nobel Peace Prize went to Venezuela’s Maria Corina Machado - why not Trump? He's solved 8 wars!

He is not a peacemaker if he wages war against American citizens in DC, Chicago and Portland, for starters. My comments are in regard to peacemaker.
BTW Biden arranged the release of 6 times as many hostages and had begun to build a dock on the Mediterranean so that Palestinian food relief could not be blocked, etc.
I recall the morning following the death of Osama Bin Laden. Upon arriving at work, many colleagues expressed relief that justice had been served. However, one coworker, known for his strong Republican views, appeared noticeably reserved. When I asked him about this, he explained, "Did you not hear last night's speech? President Obama used 'I' frequently instead of 'we.' He seemed to take all the credit, even though it was the SEALs who executed the operation while he was in his office."

There was no point in trying to persuade my coworker about the situation and the relief that Americans experienced that day. His negative view of President Obama influenced his perspective, making it difficult for him to recognize any positive aspects of the event. Unfortunately today, many Americans feel similarly about President Trump.

If the United States is to return to its previous standards of political discourse—where individuals can disagree yet maintain mutual respect—we must overcome partisan divisions and seek common ground, recognizing and celebrating what truly matters.

Obama wasn’t trying to win the prize. It was awarded to him. For Trump, peace just for the sake of peace isn’t enough. There needs to be some material reward to go along with it.
allow me to call attention to the question. Do you have anything the Obama did that deserves an award

President Obama did not earn the Nobel Peace Prize; it was awarded to him by an overly enthusiastic progressive committee.

President Trump has not yet taken actions that would qualify for a Nobel Prize. If lasting peace in the Middle East is achieved, he could be considered as a suitable candidate for the prize.

Nevertheless, I believe it would be inappropriate for him to receive the prize given the manner in which he has advocated for it. My opinion is not personal, but rather rooted in fundamental principles we teach our children. When a child throws a tantrum or insists on receiving a reward because they feel more deserving than others, we typically refrain from granting that reward. In life, rewards are conferred not in response to persistent demands, but in recognition of virtue.

Regrettably, President Trump did not internalize the lesson that is frequently imparted to adolescents.

No and neither has Trump.
The Abraham Accords if signed by Saudia Arabis by next summer will qualify Trump, presuming that we are well into Phase 2 of the Gaza 20-point plan

Sure if you only focus on one single policy position he managed to get right (so far).

It’s a bit silly to reward someone with the Nobel Peace Prize for ending a war they never stopped supplying weapons to while their own country is splitting at the seams with self inflicted social unrest, hatred and division.

The vast majority social unrest in America and hatred towards other Americans is coming from the far left progressive liberals.

Sure. The president bears no responsibility for the dysfunctional state his country is in.

The peace prize is often awarded for one very huge step toward peace. Didn't Begin and Sadat get for it their treaty, which led a peace treaty, Egypt recognizing the state of Israel, and then the assassination of Sadat.

Carter brokered the peace but was much more humble than Trump. Carter eventually did get the peace for a body of work promoting world peace. Google Search

Trump getting the award on 2026 or even 2027 for his part in promoting peace in several regions would be consistent with the Nobel committee's treatment of Carter.

There are many policy actions involving wars that Trump has gotten right. Trump being Trump, he takes more credit than he might be due. However, make no mistake, many of Trump's actions have shortened wars and saved many lives.

We have and will continue to debate tariff policy and domestic policy, and step toward autocracy elsewhere. This is a thread about Trump's role in war and peace.

The Nobel committee operates independently, although its members are Norwegian. Below are several polls from Europe in 2025 regarding President Trump. These polls indicate European views on President Trump. Developments in Gaza and Israel over the next four years are not expected to significantly alter European perspectives toward President Trump.

Here is what Europe see in President Trump

"If they don't pay, I'm not going to defend them. No, I'm not going to defend them." President Trump March 6, 2025

Anyone who believes that the Nobel Committee will nominate President Trump for the prize in the future may not be fully informed about global perspectives.

Here are the most recent insights on Donald Trump’s approval (or confidence/favorability) ratings across European countries:

Pew Research Center – “Confidence in Trump” (June 2025)

Pew surveyed adults in 24 nations, reporting the percentage who have “some” or “a lot” of confidence in Trump to do the right thing in world affairs:

CountryConfidence in Trump
Germany18%[1]
Spain19%[1]
Sweden15%[1]
Turkey16%[1]
NetherlandsAmong several EU countries with majorities reporting “no confidence” – explicitly named in the same survey[1]
Across the 24 surveyed countries, a median of 34% expressed any confidence, while 62% expressed little or none[1].

Chicago Council on Global Affairs & YouGov – European Opinion (Feb–Mar 2025)

A survey across seven European nations (UK, France, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, Italy) showed:

  • 58% hold a “very unfavorable” view of Trump
  • 16% hold a “somewhat unfavorable” view
  • Only 19% hold a favorable opinion[2]
That reflects strong negative sentiment consistently across this set of countries.

Politico / Le Grand Continent (Mar 2025) – “Enemy of Europe”

In a survey covering eight major EU countries plus Denmark (over 10,000 respondents):

  • 51% consider Trump an “enemy of Europe”
  • 63% believe his presidency makes the world less safe
  • Only 13% feel Trump respects democratic principles,
whereas 43% see authoritarian tendencies, and 39% say he “acts like a dictator”[3]
Despite some variation across Central/Eastern Europe, negative perceptions predominate in Western Europe.

✅ Summary: European Country-Level Approval Snapshot

  • Germany: ~ 18% confidence in Trump
  • Spain: ~ 19% confidence
  • Sweden: ~ 15% confidence
  • France, UK, Italy, Denmark (aggregate):
    • ~ 19% favorable
    • ~ 74% unfavorable (58% very unfavorable + 16% somewhat)[2]
  • EU-wide (8 countries + Denmark):
    • 51% see Trump as a European "enemy"
    • 63% say his presidency decreases global safety[3]

Key Takeaways

  • Trump’s confidence/favorability ratings in Europe are uniformly low, typically in the teens.
  • Majorities in most Western European countries view him unfavorably, often very unfavorably.
  • A notable portion considers him a direct threat, even “enemy of Europe.”

What is most remarkable is the level of investment exhibited by President Trump’s supporters—whether in the media, politics, or among ordinary citizens—in advocating for him to receive a Nobel Prize. Realistically, how many of us genuinely pay attention to who wins the Nobel Prize, or even know when nominees are announced? For most people, unless they are watching live coverage, the news passes by with little more than a passing comment such as “Oh, that’s nice,” before moving on.

However, recent discussions surrounding the Nobel Peace Prize have intensified, with considerable debate about its significance and who should be awarded. This heightened interest appears largely driven by President Trump’s pursuit of the honor.

President Trump holds one of the highest positions achievable in the past century—the President of the United States. Is the Nobel Peace Prize really considered more prestigious than being President of the United States? I don’t think so.

So I really do not understand what is this obsession from MAGA that President Trump get noble peace prize?
