Christian hip-hop artist Lecrae said the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk symbolizes the spiritual warfare occurring in a divided culture. On the latest episode of “Deep End with Lecrae,” the musician said he had a vision about Kirk’s murder while in Africa. He also advised Christians to seek unity amid earthly strife.
Lecrae, who turns 46 today (Oct. 9), said he didn’t know Kirk and had never met him. “I’d only heard of [Kirk] when he falsely accused me of campaigning for [U.S. Senate candidate] Raphael Warnock,” he said. When Kirk was shot and killed Sept. 10 at a college event in Utah, Lecrae was in Africa, so he didn’t hear the news as quickly as others did.
After people criticized the musician for not speaking out about the incident, he made a statement about rejecting violence. “I’m slow to speak because I’m trying to process” the news, Lecrae said. “I’m not that narcissistic to feel like I have to have the leading voice on everything that’s going on in America.”
