  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

At the center of the controversy is a 2016 essay titled “The Impossible Dialogue with Islam,” in which Ballester argued that genuine dialogue between Christianity and Islam remains unattainable under current conditions

(ZENIT News / Barcelona, 10.07.2025).- The conviction of a Spanish priest for “hate speech” has ignited a national conversation about the boundaries of religious expression and freedom of conscience in modern Europe. Father Custodio Ballester, a Barcelona parish priest known for his outspoken views, was found guilty last week of making “Islamophobic” remarks in an article he wrote more than seven years ago. At the center of the controversy is a 2016 essay titled “The Impossible Dialogue with Islam,” in which Ballester argued that genuine dialogue between Christianity and Islam remains unattainable under current conditions. The article was a direct response to a pastoral letter from Cardinal Juan José Omella, Archbishop of Barcelona, entitled “The Necessary Dialogue with Islam.” Ballester’s critique was pointed, suggesting that “for Islam, one either believes or remains an infidel to be subdued in one way or another.”

The 20th century was marked by a stand-off between two factions: totalitarianism and democracy. The totalitarians, of course, were the Nazis, the Communists, and various smaller fascist and socialist wannabes. The democratics were the United States, the British Empire, and their allies.

I suspect that the 21st century will be marked by a similar stand-off, but this one will be between expansionist Islam vs. Everybody Else. How this will play out will depend on a number of factors: the capability of Muslim countries to acquire weapons of mass destruction, the shrinking birth rates and moral disintegration in Western nations, the possibility of major natural disasters such as volcanic activity or changing climactic or environmental conditions...and by extension, water shortages, oil shortages, famine, etc., and the possibility of the collapse of global economies.

No matter how it all cooks down, by the time 2100 rolls around, things are likely to look a lot different than they do now. Hopefully, Islam will either be contained to its own areas, or will somehow learn to live with the rest of the world. Or maybe Jesus will return---which, let's face it, would be a good thing, at least for those trying to live for Him.
