CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Politics, like this trip. But when they travel about to their own units, it's built into the unit mission and training schedules, so it's very low cost.
The SCIFs in their homes make them available 24/7.

Have you listened to the two speeches yet? I'm half way through Hegseth's as I write. I'm already forming an opinion on what he's saying, but that's a civilian's opinion. And I'm pretty certain what is being said will not necessarily be received by the military audience the same way as I'm receiving it.
You're our go-to guy for the military view on these type of matters. So how do you think the brass will take all this? A mighty 'Oo Rah*!' or a lot of rolled eyes.
* I was checking the spelling and now I know that what's said - or shouted, varies on whether you're Marine, Navy or Army. Don't the fly boys have a version..?

I could have been wrong, though. It appears that the audience didn't applaud with very much enthusiasm and Trump had to "encourage" them to applaud more vigorously.

Indeed, you never hear more "sirs" than in a room full of generals. They are acutely aware even of who has date of rank over others of equal rank.

That's not what happened. I'm beginning to wonder if some people on the internet are from an alternate universe. I don't wordship Trump. I'm not a MAGA. But the stuff some people come up with is so wrong I end up defending him.

I know this was a joke, and I don't really believe that the US are going to use force to occupy Greenland. How does the US public (the ones of you that are here) see this kind of saber rattling? To me, it's insane that Trump wasn't (isn't?) prepared to take military force off the table with regards to Greenland. When I did my military service the enemy was always attacking from the east (figuratively speaking), having a handgrenade dropped from a drone in my lap in a snowy trench on Greenland beside a dane wasn't part of the plan.

The bit about the US being respected because Trump can carefully walk down stairs? That was intended for the American public?
Here's a direct quote from the speech:
"We were not respected with Biden. They looked at him falling down stairs every day. Every day the guy's falling down stairs. I'm very careful, you know, when I walk downstairs. Like I'm on stairs, like these stairs, I'm very careful. I walk very slowly. You don't have to set any record. Be cool. Be cool when you walk down but don't, don't bop down the stairs. So one with Obama, I had zero respect for him as a president, but he would bop down those stairs like I've never seen *inaudible* danah, danah, danah bop."
Truly he is a wordsmith.

But however you got there and you go through years of work and now you become an Admiral or a General or whatever. And when you do, the president of the United States signs your commission, as you know. And that commission is beautifully displayed. And I sign it, actually, I love my signature. I really do. Everyone loves my signature, but i signed it very proudly.
And i always think to myself, how can you have an autopen? Sign this? It's just so disrespectful to me. It's just totally disrespectful. And it turned out that almost everything he did was signed by by autopen, except for when he gave his son Hunter pardon. He signed that one. And that's actually the worst signature I've ever seen. That was a bad. The autopen looks much better.
If this speech was intended for the American public, I guess it really does show just how highly Donald Trump thinks of the public.

I see now why even his fans aren't tuning into this stuff anymore.
Guy just rambles on and on like nobody's business. I don't think anyone could even write a speech like this for him. This is just a flowing stream of (un)counsciousness interspersed with superlatives and self aggrandizement for good measure. I haven't watched not one second of his speech but reading this makes me feel so bad for those generals having to calmly sit there and endure this torture.

But do you see his demands for Greenland as justified? If so, why? Denmark have already said that the US is free to expand its military presence on Greenland for military strategic reasons (at the height of the cold war there was ~6000 persons there, nowadays it's counted in the 100s). Implicitly threatening a founding member of NATO is ok anyway?
