  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Still, I'd rather have a pilot who has shown the most competency during their training, without regard to skin color. DEI slants that regard toward the skin color factor.
Oh really? Please list some examples of pilots for whom competency was slanted for skin color.

Its a matter of logic. A company has a job that had 90% white men doing it. These men were the most skilled. They either met the requirements or exceeded them. Now the company decides it needs 25% women and 25% blacks.

Question, why didnt they have more blacks and women before? Was the compound a racist and misogynistic organization? Or was the company hiring the BEST people?

In order to get rhat ratio they want they now have to get rid of merit based hiring. In other words the BEST candidate if it is a whote man does not get the job. Instead a black person or a woman who did meet the qualifications but was not the best candidate gets the job. You end up with mediocre pilots flying the plane instead of the BEST people flying the plane.

It works that way in every profession almost. Do you want the best heart surgeon tou can get or a mediocre heart surgeon?

If your facing life in prison what kind of lawyer do you want? Just any defense attorney? After all, they are all qualified. They have a degree and based rhe bar exam. They are fully licensed to be an attorney. So, any Ole defense attorney will work correct? Or do you want a really good defense attorney?

DEI would supplant merit with quotas in practice. So in the defense attorney situation you would be given a black woman defense attorney because it eas decided we needed more women defense attorneys. The fact that she's mediocre (not due to skin color but merit) is irrelevant. In fact we are going to turn away really good defense attorney's because they dont meet the skin and sex requirements.

Logic.

You assume those white men with 90% of the positions were more qualified than other women or racial minorities but were they? If 90% white men was the demographic preference, and they overlooked better qualified women or minorities, then it stands to reason that they were willing to hire mediocre white men over women and minorities better qualified because they wanted to hire for demographic preference over qualifications.

DEI is meant to open recruitment opportunities to wider demographics thus widening to pool of qualified applicants. Having goals to increase percentages in demographics other than white male does not necessitate lowering standards.
