  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.9 struck the Central Philippines around 10 p.m. local time, according to the US Geological Survey, raising fears about damage and the possibility of a localized tsunami.

The earthquake occurred only 10 kilometers (6 miles) underwater, just west of Palompon in the Philippines.

Fortunately this earthquake occurred in a part of the Philippines that isn't as developed as other areas, but it was close enough to Cebu City and some other medium-sized cities where there will no doubt be some serious damage. I'm already seeing evidence of this on social media. Hopefully the number of casualties will be low.

The number of casualties is sure to climb based on what I've been seeing on social media.

Cebu earthquake kills 26 – NDRRMC

Twenty-six people were killed when a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck Cebu province in the middle of the night on Tuesday, Sept. 30, when most of the residents were already in deep slumber.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said the powerful rumbling also injured 147 individuals.

“[The] situation [is] still being assessed. We’ve been receiving reports of casualties from different sources. However, we still need to validate those reports to provide a clearer picture,” Office of Civil Defense (OCD) deputy spokesperson Diego Mariano said.
