ChyAnn Ketchum, Southport’s Public Information Officer, said a boat came up to American Fish Company on Yacht Basin Drive, paused and then opened fired on the patrons before heading up the Intracoastal Waterway towards Oak Island.

The City of Southport said there are reports of an active shooter in the Southport Yacht Basin.

Southport, NC, is a small coastal town with a population under 5,000 and was the filming location for the 2013 movie "Safe Haven," based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks, and "I Know What You Did Last Summer," filmed in 1997. The restaurant where this mass shooting occurred, American Fish Company, appeared in both films.

Ex-Marine Allegedly Behind Southport Bar Boat Massacre That Left 3 Dead, 8 Hurt

Authorities have identified the alleged shooter as Sean William DeBevoise, a 40-year-old former Marine who legally changed his name to Nigel Max Edge. DeBevoise once lived in Oak Island, North Carolina, and served in Iraq, where he reportedly sustained traumatic injuries, including a suspected gunshot wound to the head in 2006.

After his injuries, he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and experienced bouts of disorganised thinking. Public records and online postings show a man increasingly consumed by conspiracy theories. He repeatedly claimed he was being targeted by what he described as a 'white supremacist LGBTQ paedophile ring.'

He filed a string of lawsuits and penned erratic Facebook posts railing against perceived enemies.

In 2012, he accompanied country singer Kellie Pickler to the CMT Awards.

Nigel Max Edge, faces:

3 counts of First-Degree Murder

5 counts of Attempted First-Degree Murder

5 counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill or Inflict Serious Injury

According to court documents, he used a short barrel AR rifle, with suppressor, folding stock and scope.

After his injuries, he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and experienced bouts of disorganised thinking.

That’s the smoking gun. Another heinous crime committed by someone with mental illness harming innocents. Remember what the man on FOX suggested. Forced euthanasia. Don’t assume the public won’t get behind it if incidents continue. We’ll see if someone starts to complain.

Ive always through we underrate the karmic reverberations of the Iraq War 2. So much damage and suffering radiating out from that unnecessary and fraudulently justified crusade. (I dont blame our military. They did what we (well, many of us) asked them to.)

Lets keep that in mind as we consider which (not necessarily military) crusades we sign on for today with enthusiasm.

A couple of the lawsuits the shooter filed.

Edge v. United States of America et al, No. 7:2024cv01086 - Document 93 (E.D.N.C. 2025)

Plaintiff alleges a wide-ranging conspiracy among the various defendants originating with, inter alia, the “Iraq War,” the “Abu Ghraib Scandal,” the “Epstein Pedophile Ring,” and “Attacks on 9/11.”

Plaintiff suggests numerous misdeeds, including crimes against humanity, human trafficking, attempted murder, hate crime, pedophilia, falsifying a birth certificate, kidnapping, drugging, slander, torture, strangulation, medical malpractice, vandalism, poisoning, and harassment.

Plaintiff alleges a “Hate Crime (LGBQT toward a straight man(me)) who was raised as a straight male for (LGBTQ) purposes in an illegal pedophile sex ring.”

He further alleges defendants “William and Sandra DeBevoise are LGBQT White Supremacist Pedophiles directly responsible for” a variety of wrongs including: “Falsifying Birth Certificate for a feral child,” “kidnapping and drugging (Involuntary Intoxication) (with growth hormone as a child) the plaintiff for their monetary gain in the film industry,” and “Attempting to turn the plaintiff into a ‘Home Grown Terrorist (Slander)’.”

Additionally, the complaint alleges defendant officer McCormick “escorted [plaintiff] to people’s houses to install fans, that in LGBQT language were all fans of pedophilia developed by the Clarkstown Police Department working with Epstein.”

Under the heading “Criminal Investigative Division, Camp Lejeune, NC (Sean Mandall),” plaintiff alleges, inter alia: The Plaintiff did not even know existed until a couple years ago, all while the Plaintiff has been saying something was wrong since surviving my wounds from Iraq; where on the most official mission of my career the U.S. Marine Corp murdered the other man (Corpsman) and attempted to murder me as a (Hate Crime) locally and lead by the “Abu Ghraib Scandal” where the U.S. Government was performing a genocide against straight men by the LGBQT Community running the prison and murdering, torturing/trafficking Iraqi prisoners to fight

He further states “I only survived because they thought I was dead,” and “I was sent home as a drug mule (in my abdomen) in a body bag and branded with a letter ‘A’ on my head.”

Plaintiff served in the United States Marine Corps from 2003 to 2009 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He earned numerous decorations including a Purple Heart, a Combat Action Ribbon, and a Campaign Medal with two bronze stars. Plaintiff survived multiple gunshot wounds, including one to his head, and suffered a traumatic brain injury during his military service.

This is the video. Let’s be honest with ourselves. That’s a loaded statement for someone in his position to make. Backlash is inevitable but he wasn’t fired. Given the context and other factors on the subject of mental health I don’t think it was an accident. And if you listen to the tone and put on the captions you’ll see the discussion in its proper context. The first remark set the stage for his and shifted the blame to the disabled and off the government and medical providers. They’ve done their job.

This segment is an example of nudging. They’re using the crime to frame a narrative for a solution. There’s good cop and bad cop too and fearmongering. Both remedies imply force and that’s the goal. Nudging is a popular way of influencing behavior. That’s why he said it’s happening all around the country to illustrate “the problem.” They’re creating the boogeyman.

Treatment is expensive. So a lot of mentally ill people are on their own to tough it out however they can.

When a tiny minority of them lash out with some horrible violence, the rest of us find that more acceptable than the cost of treatment. Those are our values.

The suspect, Nigel Edge, of Oak Island, North Carolina, has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and five counts of attempted murder, Southport Police Chief Todd Coring said at a news conference on Sunday. Edge is also charged with five counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or injure, Coring said.

I dont think that is the case. I think the majority of people would support doing something to get these people help so they aren’t going around murdering people.

Ive long been a proponent of the lock em up solution along with forced medicalization. If you refuse to take your drugs then off you go. If drugs wont work on you then off you go. You aren't safe enough to be in the general public.
