  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Congressional paychecks.
So we are back to the old English model, where the House of Commons and the House of Lords told the King how much he could spend, and the King did everything else.

Glad we are going back to such a tried and tested system.

I LOVE how much Trump supporters on Christian Forums were directly saying they wanted a president that extricated America from conflict to save money.

Then they changed the name to the "War" Department and there is collective amnesia... or apathy.
Good for yweeeuuuu!

Hegseth’s order, people familiar with the matter said, applies to all senior officers with the rank of brigadier general or above, or their Navy equivalent, serving in command positions and their top enlisted advisers. Typically, each of these officers oversees hundreds or thousands of rank-and-file troops.

Brilliant. Did the secretary of war really think this through from a defense posture?

Yes, not only the Constitution gives Congress the power to declare war but the Congress passed the War Powers Act in 1973. The President as Commander in Chief can defend the USA in a temporary situation. Congress too can look the other way when the President prolongs a conflict like many did in Vietnam for a time. But the reality is that Congress is supposed to control spending and they can cut the purse strings anytime. It always is good to have Congress initiate or on board with things the executive branch does. Trump unilaterally executing vast policy changes will and should be checked. I think we will see it in the tariff ruling. Tilting power too much to the President is a scary proposition. While Trump might do things OK, certainly a future Pres. may not.
I should say too that the constitutionality of the War Powers Act is to an extent untried. So in reality the USA kind of wings it and if there is a big enough gripe about it then the Courts may decide to clarify the powers.

I am sure some wish that Iran or N. Korea had all their top military brass in one place. Seems stupid to announce the meeting. Hope they are covert and already plan to change the venue.

If i had to guess at least part of the content of the meeting, it could be about Trump's interpretation of military action according to the U.S. Constitution. An example would be how extrajudicial killings like the boats in the Carribbean can occur, or how troops can violate the Posse Comitatus Act. Maybe too Trump wants more leftists citizens, whom he labels terrorists put into prison camps. Even if no one talks, we will have hints by who quits.

I'm going to guess that Hegseth will dress them down for being supportive of LGBT and tell them to scale back on the use of women in combat. He'll also probably stress the importance of supporting the wars against illegal immigrants and drug cartels.

Could be the possiblity of a NATO/Poland/Russia conflict or Argentina. Gov shutdown is also possible on the same day.

This meeting should have been an email.

Leaving all areas of defense in the hands of underlings for a couple days shouldn’t “hurt” anything.
