  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Negative and unbiblical lyrics in modern worship led me to write my own songs

I'm not here to bash other music. But I've heard enough modern worship songs to know there is a problem. I'm not claiming to have the ultimate solution, but I know if I keep writing I will continue to get better and to capture the essence of worship I remember from songs in my childhood in the 90's.

I just released a short collection of songs with simple, singable lyrics and bible based concepts found in scripture. Instead of telling stories and expressing emotions, my music is about the vertical relation we have with God, needing him, loving him, and receiving the good from Him that we can share with others.

I would be completely honored if you took a listen to my album below. I am offering it for free, I don't have anything to sell . . . just the hope that worship music can go through a renewal phase and go back to the basics if enough people start to write new songs. Blessings!

Yes, I agree with your premise about many contemporary worship songs. I can say I like the songs though I have not gone over the lyrics yet. There is some good style and sounds in there. A mix of Bob Bennet, America, Hall and Oates with even some Tim Weisburg. In the opening solo that sounds like a flute though perhaps synthesized, I was wondering what an Irish flute would sound like there? Love the more classical flute sound though in the later songs. Thanks for sharing them with me. I was going to say too that you might consider copyrighting your songs if you do not already do so. God bless!

It's quite a blessing for you to list the artists that these songs remind you of. You are right about the flutes, I make them out of bamboo after the bansuri style of India. It's quite similar to the Irish flute in the tone and range. Some are larger or smaller giving them a different range. Thanks so much for your comments, I am smiling!

As far as the lyrics, many of them are phrases that appear in scripture with standard concepts being reworded for lyric flow. I've enjoyed writing the songs with the bible in front of me, sometimes in awe over how connected the word is to itself with so many cross references and tie ins from the old and the new testaments.

Most of my lyrics are simple and basic declarations of faith, loving Jesus and admitting need for God. I do have copyrights on my list of things to do. Thanks for reminding me . . .

God bless you too!
