Someone wearing a mask 6 feet apart and taking preventive action like closing schools is far more effective then doing nothing.
There is simply no data to support this wishful thinking. There is, however robust data that dates back nearly 20 years that says the exact opposite.
Medical or surgical masks
Ten studies took place in the community, and two studies in healthcare workers. Compared with wearing no mask in the community studies only, wearing a mask may make little to no difference in how many people caught a flu-like illness/COVID-like illness (9 studies; 276,917 people); and probably makes little or no difference in how many people have flu/COVID confirmed by a laboratory test (6 studies; 13,919 people). Unwanted effects were rarely reported; discomfort was mentioned.
N95/P2 respirators
Four studies were in healthcare workers, and one small study was in the community. Compared with wearing medical or surgical masks, wearing N95/P2 respirators probably makes little to no difference in how many people have confirmed flu (5 studies; 8407 people); and may make little to no difference in how many people catch a flu-like illness (5 studies; 8407 people), or respiratory illness (3 studies; 7799 people). Unwanted effects were not well-reported; discomfort was mentioned.
School closures were a complete disaster. Not only did they not "slow the spread" of the virus, they resulted in YEARS of education stolen from our youth.
Your issue, if I understand you, is your angst against over protective measures.
Your issue, if I understand you, is that you've been falsely led to believe that the measures are in any way "protective".
Better safe than sorry as the dead are stacked up like cord wood.
No. Absolutely not. When most objective people walk into a store and there is a 2x2 piece of plexiglass between them and the cashier, they realize how ridiculous that is. When these foolish, evidence-poor things are mandated by the government, they lose the trust of the people they ostensibly "protect". Gruber and Krause warned that boosters without evidence would result in lower uptake of all vaccines when they resigned. And here we are.
This isn't really worthy of discussion.
Oh, but it is. You severely underestimate just how much damage the foolish, evidence-poor era of COVID has done to trust in public health.
