  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Architect of the Restrictions to the Latin Mass really - REALLY - hates the newly canonized Carlo Acutis

Andrea Grillo is such a detestable character. But, unfortunately, we are forced to return often to covering him because of the outsized influence he was given by the late Francis. As Rorate mentioned in the earlier words about this matter,

The detestable Italian professor was introduced by some malevolent Vatican spirit to Francis and created the document that would later be signed by the late pope as "Traditionis custodes", whose aim is explicitly to destroy the Traditional Latin Mass in the long term.

Last month, we covered the first consequences of his tirades against the (now newly canonized) Carlo Acutis, when his own university disowned him.

There are criticisms to be made of the Acutis canonization, but mostly regarding (as often in recent decades) an accelerated procedure, not the person himself. By all accounts, Acutis was really a fine boy who, despite growing up in a secularized, barely nominally Catholic, family, was saved by a supernatural love for the Blessed Sacrament.

And yet it is Acutis's love for Sacramental Christ that is the fulcrum of Grillo's hatred for him and his canonization. And it reveals a lot about the spirit behind Traditionis Custodes, and why it is such a malevolent, erroneous, perverted, and perverse document.

In his latest Facebook texts about Acutis, Grillo can simply not contain his hatred for the Eucharist. First, Grillo published thistirade against what is, by all appearances, a saintly text firmly based on traditional Catholic doctrine on the Blessed Sacrament:

An embarrassing document
Carlo and his kit to become a Saint

1) You must want it with all your heart, and if you don't yet desire it, you must insistently ask the Lord for it.
2) Try to go to Holy Mass and receive Holy Communion every day.
3) Remember to recite the Holy Rosary every day.
4) Read a passage from Sacred Scripture every day.
5) If you can, spend some time in Eucharistic Adoration before the Tabernacle where Jesus is truly present, and you will see how your level of holiness will increase prodigiously.
7) If you can, confess your venial sins every week, even if you are a virgin.
Frequently make resolutions and sacrifices to the Lord and Our Lady to help others.
9) Continually ask for help from your Guardian Angel, who must become your best friend.

Absolutely, 100% truth!

It works!

I’m not Catholic and to me it seems like the rejection of the Latin Mass is like some demonic hysteria. Liturgy or Mass is best in an understood language but to basically ban an original language of worship?

There is a traditional Latin Mass Church near where I live.

Why do you say Mass in Latin? Why not in the vernacular?
The Catholic Faith, which is so beautifully expressed in the Holy Mass, was spread by the Apostles and by the early Christian missionaries throughout the Roman Empire. The common language of the Western Roman Empire was Latin, and this became the liturgical language of our rite, the Roman Rite. It has been the consistent teaching of many popes that Latin has special qualities as a language of worship. The use of this ancient language is a safeguard against errors and heresies; it is not subject to constant changes but remains the same for all time. Latin is a symbol of the visible universality and unity of the Church that through the centuries has preserved the bond of unity with our common center, Rome. Latin, as the language of the Church, unites Catholics from all nations and all centuries.
