  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Here on earth, where our lives are so short compared to eternity, we have constantly changing styles of popular music. What is music like in heaven? Are their fashions, styles, favourite vocalists - an angel with a heavenly voice?

Some saints have had visions of heaven. Saint John Bosco was one.

He claimed that he could not describe the music as it was so overpowering.

St. John Bosco:
“As I stood there basking in the splendor of those gardens, I suddenly heard music most sweet—so delightful and enchanting a melody that I could never adequately describe it…[T]he singers not only took the deepest pleasure in singing but also received vast joy in listening to the others…and this was their song: ‘Salvation, honor and glory to Almighty God and Father…the Creator who was, who is and who will come to judge the living and the dead forever and ever.’”

We need to bear in mind that the changing musical landscape of modern life is a flash in the pan compared to the time that has already elapsed, and possibly will elapse, and our musical fads aren't going to have much impact on God's music.

As CS Lewis wrote somewhere "If God wants music, He won't ask us for it" or words to that effect.

In heaven everything will be transcended, whether we're talking about music, natural beauty, "mansions" or charity.

Since God is eternal, he exists outside time and is unbound by it. If Heaven is just an infinite continuation of linear temporal existence that I realized at a very young age, around the age of 8, would be Hell. I was tormented by the idea of infinite linear time until I became Orthodox, in fact.
