CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The suspected shooter has been taken into custody.
Charlie Kirk, the head of Turning Point USA, the nation’s pre-eminent conservative youth organization, was shot while speaking at a campus event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, a university spokeswoman and Mr. Kirk’s spokesman said.
The university spokeswoman, Ellen Treanor, said that Mr. Kirk was struck about 20 minutes after he began speaking on campus. She said a suspect had fired at Mr. Kirk from the Losee Center, a building about 200 yards away, and been taken into custody. The suspect was not a student, she said.

I watched the close up video, there's very little chance of him being alive.
Remember when a far right extremist dressed up as a cop and shot 4 democratic politicians in Minnesota and everybody collectively forgot a week later? This will not go that way.

Looking at the video, it appears the bullet hit one of the carotid arteries. The likelihood that he survives is very slim, unfortunately. I'm still hoping for the best though.

I haven’t seen it and I’m not likely to, but my husband did as did others. What they described sounds like carotid injury with potential internal decapitation… Maybe biologically survivable for a time, but functionally basically a DRT scenario, which is awful.

I haven’t, nor will I, see the video but I’m hearing the same. I fear that this is a scenario with biological and physiological death do not occur in unison, so I pray for him and those who are caring for him, as well as his family as I know the anguish that comes from that is just a trauma in and of itself for all involved.

The police have determined that a person who was taken into custody after the shooting was not actually the shooter, according to Scott Trotter, a university spokesman. The university had earlier said a suspect was in custody, and videos online showed an older man being detained by police officers.
