What Does the Lord Jesus Mean by “Doing the Will of the Heavenly Father “?

The Lord Jesus said, “Not every one that said to Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of My Father which is in heaven “ (Matthew 7:21). From this, it is evident that entering the kingdom of heaven is not a simple matter; it’s not merely a matter of believing in the Lord. To enter the kingdom of heaven, we must strive to become those who do the will of the Heavenly Father. But what does it mean to do God’s will?

The Lord Jesus said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like to it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself “ (Matthew 22:37–39)
God says, “What this means is that amidst the judgment, chastisement, and trials of God, those who truly abide by God’s will are able to praise God from deep within their hearts, and to utterly obey God and forsake themselves, thus loving God with a heart that is sincere, undivided, and pure; such is a perfect person, and it is precisely the work that God intends to do, and the work that He shall accomplish.”
From this, it is clear that truly doing God’s will involves putting His words into practice and obeying His commandments. Regardless of the circumstances God arranges, even in the face of hardships and trials, one can willingly submit to God’s orchestration and arrangement to live out God’s will. Just like Peter, who worked diligently to be considerate of God’s heart; no matter what difficulties or trials he faced, he willingly obeyed God’s arrangement; even facing death, he was willing to be crucified upside down to fulfill God’s will. Peter was a sincere lover of the Lord, and he was approved by God, and set an example for us.
Now, friends, if you have more insights, please leave a message below and let’s discuss it together.

Great post! I think some people rely on their own understanding of what it means to love Jesus with all of our heart, mind and soul, but Jesus was quoting Old Testament when He said this. Deut 6:5. This was just after Moses repeated the Ten Commandments 40 years after God wrote and spoke them and before the children of Israel crossed over to the promise land. Similar to us Rev 22:14

The first 4 of the Ten Commandments deals with our love, worship and relationship to God.

Exo 20:1 And God spoke all these words, saying:

2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of [a]bondage.
3 “You shall have no other gods before Me.
4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor [b]serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting[c] the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
7 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

The first 4 commandments show us how to love God with all our heart, mind and soul, why Jesus said If you love Me, keep My commandments.

The last six commandments deal with how to love thy neighbor.

Rom 13:9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” [a]“You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

The Ten Commandments is God's expressed will Psa 40:8 and Testimony Exo 31:18. Can you imagine if everyone in the world was keeping these commandments the way Jesus explained Mat 5:19-30 there would be no more sin in the world. No more murder, no more coveting, not worries about locking our doors at night, just living in perfect harmony with God's will, having our hearts changed where we want to do what He asks because of our great love for Him. Exo 20:6 John 14:15 1 John 5:3

God bless!

The Son's will is that we love God and neighbor as the Son has loved us.

I agree with those things as God's will but are there more? I would say yes, that there are areas of faith that go beyond just following the commandments. Faith includes doing the things that God asks. This would include being involved in speading the gospel according to what God has gifted you with. We all have a ministry of reconcilation, we all are ambassadors to Christ. I would say none of us do his will perfectly. Most of us probably have a little of king Saul in us, that we are given tasks and we would rather pray, maybe even fast, or ask the pastor to do it, when God instead is saying for us to do something. Some might call this a sin of omission, and while it should not keep you out of heaven, following God's plan for marriage, career, location and other things sure can make a difference in our walk. These things too require faith, that though the context is eating certain foods here I think it can apply to other areas. We must remember too this verse:

Hebrews 11:6, "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Romans 14:23 (KJV)

23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

I think you make some good points, but I do not believe we can separate the gospel message from the law of God.

Mark 1:15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

The whole point of the gospel message is to turn from sins (repent-forsake Pro 28:13) which is the trangression of God’s laws 1 John 3:4 and turn to Jesus who through faith we have salvation. Sadly, the gospel message being spread today by most confessed Christians is that we can be saved in our sins and we do not need to be transformed by Jesus. I personally believe this is a dangerous doctrine. Heb 10:26-30 Mat 7:21-23 Rev 22:14-15

If we look at the message of the everlasting gospel in Revelation, it tells us what we need to do:

Rev 14:6 Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth—to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people— 7 saying with a loud voice, “Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; (Ecc 12:13-14). and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water.”- Quote from the Sabbath commandment Exo 20:8-11 which contains God’s seal.

8 And another angel followed, saying, “Babylon[f] is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.”
The false doctrine that has spread around the world that Jesus wants us to come out of Rev 18:4
According to Jesus false worship is keeping our rules over obeying the commandments of God as He quoted from the Ten Commandments.Mark 7:7-13 Mat 15:3-14 True worship is obeying them through love and faith.

What happens if we do not come out of the false doctrine and listen to the first angels message:

9 Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”

The way to safeguard our salvation is to have the faith of Jesus (how did He live- what did He teach) and keep the commandments of God, instead of following the traditions of man, sadly most choose to follow.

Why this important message brings us back to the law of God- His version -what God wrote and God spoke and is in heavenly temple Rev 15:5 Rev 11:19 where His word is settled Psa 119:89

Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus

God bless!

The law of God in the NT is love of our neighbor, as distinct from the lesser law of God in the OT: do no harm to our neighbor.

We are called to the NT greater standard, love of our neighbor, not the lesser OT standard, do no harm to our neightobr.

Love thy neighbor in the NT still comes from the Ten Commandments- direct quotes Exo 20:13-17

And love does no harm to neighbor is still NC

Rom 13:10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

No where does Scripture say one is lessor than the other. Paul indicates they work in tandem.

Yes. And what is the greater standard? Rather than harming our neighbor it is HELPING our neighbor.
So for the Eighth commandment: We are prohibited from lying about about our neighbor, or slandering, or betray him, but HELP him keep his reputation by speaking well of him.
For the Seventh Commandment: We are prohibited from stealing our neighbors money or processions but HELP him protect his processions and income.
The Parable of the Samaritan is important here. The priest and the Levite did not harm but did not HELP. The Samaritan helped because he had mercy (Luke 10).

Love our neighbor as ourselves, as committed to his well-being as we are to our own.

For those who are saved by grace, this is the will of the Father:

John 6:39-40 KJV
39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

In Matthew 7:21-23, Jesus said that only those who do the will of the Father will enter the Kingdom of Heaven in contrast with saying that he would tell those who are workers of lawlessness to depart from Him and it is straightforward that the Father has made His will known through His law (Psalms 40:8). In Deuteronomy 6:4-7, the way to obey the greatest commandment in the Bible is essentially be being zealous for teaching God's law.

“You’re absolutely right Keeping God’s commandments is at the heart of doing His will. At the same time, living them out in love and service makes our faith even more real.

I’d love to keep discussing this with you and others who are seeking deeper understanding. We have a small WhatsApp group where we share thoughts, scriptures, and encouragement together. You’re warmly invited to join us Jesus is my Savior☀️
I think keeping God commands is doing his will, i would guess that is enough, anything extra work we could do for others would be better of course.

Beautifully said You’re absolutely right — God’s will is not only about keeping the commandments, but also about walking by faith, obeying His specific guidance, and living as His witnesses in this world. I especially love how you pointed out that faith requires action, and that we are all ambassadors for Christ (2 Cor 5:20).

It’s true, none of us can do His will perfectly — but with faith, God strengthens us to walk in His plan day by day.

If you’d like, we have a small WhatsApp group where we share thoughts, scriptures, and encouragement with one another. You’re warmly invited to join Jesus is my Savior☀️

Good question. This is a very very important topic.
Good question. This is a very important topic because doing God’s will touches every part of our faith and life. It’s not just about obeying the commandments, but also trusting God’s plan, living by faith, and carrying out the work He gives us.

If you’d like to explore this more deeply, here’s a resource that might help Jesus is my Savior☀️

What do you think God’s will means in your own walk with Him?”

IF the above is true then WHY does the majority heap eternal torture or death upon our neighbors in God's Name?

The evil within is evident in the carriers in that conveyance, as well as the open lie that said evil is legally obedient as that just never happens

God's judgement is one of love. God is not going to exist in a world of sin. He will do everything including giving up His only Son for man, for those who come to Him and do His good will Mat 7:21-23 to have everlasting life.

But not everyone wants to live in a world without sin. They stay in darkness because their deeds are evil and they don't want to give them up. God in His great love and mercy allows man their own desires and by their choice they choose death (not eternal punishing- but punishment- the wages of sin is death- no more) over life with Jesus without sin.

John 3: 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”
