  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In Catholicism, the
Nativity of Mary is celebrated on September 8th, marking her birth and the beginning of her unique journey as chosen by God. Catholic doctrine holds that Mary, like all humanity, was in need of redemption from original sin, which she received at her conception through a special grace from her Son, Jesus. This preservation from sin, known as the Immaculate Conception, set her apart to be the worthy vessel for Christ, making her the "New Eve" who, unlike the first Eve, obeyed God's plan.

Theological Significance

  • Immaculate Conception:Mary was preserved from the stain of original sin at the moment of her conception, making her "redeemed in a more exalted fashion" by her son's merits, according to Catholic Answers.
  • New Eve:Just as Eve brought sin into the world, Mary, the New Eve, through her perfect obedience to God, brought forth life in Christ, according to Catholic Answers.
  • Unique Calling:Her preservation from sin was necessary for her to be the mother of Jesus, the incarnate God, preparing her to carry the "ark of the covenant" within her.
The Feast Day

  • September 8th:The Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated on this date.
  • Origin:The feast likely originated in the East, possibly in Syria or Palestine, and was adopted by the Church of Rome in the seventh century, according to Catholic Answers.
Mary's Role

  • Container of God:Mary's unique role was to be the vessel through whom God entered the world in human form, a concept she fulfilled through her consent and immaculate state, notes Catholic Answers.
  • Fulfillment of Prophecy:She is seen as the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies that point to the incarnation of the Word of God, according to Catholic Answers.
