MOD HAT ON

This thread has been moved from Christian Philosophy and Ethics to Exposition and Bible Study.

From the Christian Philosophy and Ethics Statement of Purpose:
Homosexuality, Same-Sex Marriage, Bisexuality and Transgenderism/Transexualism: Discussion of these topics must comply with the sitewide rule barring the promotion of homosexuality, same-sex marriage, bisexuality, and transgenderism/transexualism. Discussion and debate should only be directed toward political, legal, historical and civil rights issues, and should not be directed toward the morality of homosexuality, same-sex marriage, bisexuality or transgenderism/transexualism.

This thread isn't talking about homosexuality from political, legal, historical, or civil rights issues, it's quoting Scripture about the topic. Quoting Scripture about homosexuality is most certainly not promoting it, and it certainly is allowed, in the Exposition and Bible Study sub forum.

Let’s take a look at a similar case in the book of Judges. Once again we will see several people losing their lives because of an attempt of sodomy or homosexuality. These attempts that were made let’s us know this act was accepted and a routine among these men. The bad thing about the scripture that we are about to read is that these were Israelites that should have known the law. Let’s take a look at the story of the Levite in Gibeah that belonged to Benjamin:

And it came to pass in those days, when there was no king in Israel, that there was a certain Levite sojourning on the side of mount Ephraim, who took to him a concubine out of Bethlehem Judah. And his concubine played the harlot against him, and went away from him unto her father's house to Bethlehem Judah, and was there four whole months. And her husband arose, and went after her, to speak friendly unto her, and to bring her again, having his servant with him, and a couple of asses: and she brought him into her father's house: and when the father of the damsel saw him, he rejoiced to meet him. (Judges 19:1-3)

At this point the father in-law asked the Levite to stay a few days with him, so he did. At the end of the fifth day the Levite, his damsel, and his servant packed up and began their journey home. After traveling for several hours the servant asked the Levite if they could stop and rest in the city of Jerusalem which was called Jebus at that time. The Jebusites were the inhabitants of the city at that time and were not of the stock of Israel, but rather they were sons of Ham through Canaan. The Levite told his servant that they will not stop in a city of strangers, but that they will continue on until they come to a city of Israel. Once the sun had set they turned into the city of Gibeah, which belonged to Benjamin. After arriving in the city they sat in the street. Then came along an old man who asked them where they were from and where were they headed. The Levite answered the gentlemen and the man then took them into his house and provided food and drinks for them and their beasts. While they were enjoying themselves there was a knock on the door and this is where we will resume in the scripture, at the 22nd verse:

Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him. And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them, and said unto them, Nay, my brethren, nay, I pray you, do not so wickedly; seeing that this man is come into mine house, do not this folly. Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing. But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go. Then came the woman in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man's house where her lord was, till it was light. And her lord rose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went out to go his way: and, behold, the woman his concubine was fallen down at the door of the house, and her hands were upon the threshold. And he said unto her, Up, and let us be going. But none answered. Then the man took her up upon an ass, and the man rose up, and gat him unto his place. And when he was come into his house, he took a knife, and laid hold on his concubine, and divided her, together with her bones, into twelve pieces, and sent her into all the coasts of Israel. (Judges 19:22-29)

We see this account was similar to the sequence of events in the book of Genesis. But in this case, we see a female being raped, which is also a vile act that was and will be punishable by death even the lake of fire. Let’s see what takes place after the children of Israel received the token from the Levite.

Then all the children of Israel went out, and the congregation was gathered together as one man, from Dan even to Beersheba, with the land of Gilead, unto the LORD in Mizpeh. (Judges 20:1)

The children of Israel started out on the right track, by gathering themselves onto Lord. After they were gathered, the chief among them asked the Levite what had taken place in Gibeah. Let’s see what the Levite had to say:

And the Levite, the husband of the woman that was slain, answered and said, I came into Gibeah that belongeth to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to lodge. And the men of Gibeah rose against me, and beset the house round about upon me by night, and thought to have slain me: and my concubine have they forced, that she is dead. And I took my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel: for they have committed lewdness and folly in Israel. (Judges 20:4-6)

He states that they were trying to kill him. He doesn’t mention the fact that he pushed his wife out the door to save himself. We are supposed to protect our wives, and if needs be lay down our lives for them, not run behind them. Let’s read the next verse,

Behold, ye are all children of Israel; give here your advice and counsel. (Judges 20:7)

They asked counsel of among themselves, instead of taking the matter directly to the Lord. So the children of Israel encamped against the city of Gibeah, and told the Benjamites to send the men out so they could put them to death. The Benjamites refused to hand them over. Now, note what happens next:

And the children of Israel arose, and went up to the house of God, and asked counsel of God, and said, Which of us shall go up first to the battle against the children of Benjamin? And the LORD said, Judah shall go up first. (Judges 20:18)

Note what the scripture says, “Which of us shall go up first to the battle against the children of Benjamin?” They should have said, “Lord, should we go out to war against our brothers?” We see that they have made their minds up, before consulting with the Lord. Let’s see what happens next.

And the children of Israel rose up in the morning, and encamped against Gibeah. And the men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin; and the men of Israel put themselves in array to fight against them at Gibeah. And the children of Benjamin came forth out of Gibeah, and destroyed down to the ground of the Israelites that day twenty and two thousand men. (Judges 20:19-20)

Wait a minute! Benjamin destroyed twenty thousand men of Israel. The men of Benjamin are the ones that committed that lewd act. If the son of Benjamin had not sinned against the Lord, none of this would have taken place. Here in their first encounter twenty-thousand of the men of Israel had die. Let’s continue:

And the people the men of Israel encouraged themselves, and set their battle again in array in the place where they put themselves in array the first day. (And the children of Israel went up and wept before the LORD until even, and asked counsel of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up again to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother? And the LORD said, Go up against him.) (And the children of Israel went up and wept before the LORD until even, and asked counsel of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up again to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother? And the LORD said, Go up against him.) And the children of Israel came near against the children of Benjamin the second day. And Benjamin went forth against them out of Gibeah the second day, and destroyed down to the ground of the children of Israel again eighteen thousand men; all these drew the sword. (Judges 20:21-25)

In the second encounter Benjamin destroyed eighteen thousand men of Israel all because of the lust of a few men. So far a total of thirty-eight thousand men had die. Now, let’s take a look at the final battle between these brethren.

And Israel set liers in wait round about Gibeah. And the children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and put themselves in array against Gibeah, as at other times. And the children of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city; and they began to smite of the people, and kill, as at other times, in the highways, of which one goeth up to the house of God, and the other to Gibeah in the field, about thirty men of Israel. And the children of Benjamin said, They are smitten down before us, as at the first. But the children of Israel said, Let us flee, and draw them from the city unto the highways. And all the men of Israel rose up out of their place, and put themselves in array at Baaltamar: and the liers in wait of Israel came forth out of their places, even out of the meadows of Gibeah. And there came against Gibeah ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and the battle was sore: but they knew not that evil was near them. And the LORD smote Benjamin before Israel: and the children of Israel destroyed of the Benjamites that day twenty and five thousand and an hundred men: all these drew the sword. (Judges 20:29-35)

This third and final battle, twenty five thousand men of Benjamin died. That brings the total to 63,000 men being killed in battle. Why? Because of the “men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him.”

What does this phrase indicate “that we may know him” or the act of “knowing”? This phrase simply means to have sexual intercourse.

In the Judges story, as in the Genesis story, the crime is gang rape. I trust we all agree that gang rape is very different from consensual intimacy.

Yes, and the story of Sodom and Gomorrah not only pertained to sexual assault, but sexual assault against guests. Sexual assault against guests who were angelic beings.

Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for men stealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine; (I Timothy 1:9-10)

Note what Paul says, “Knowing this that the law is not made for a righteous man.” Why, because a righteous man or woman are keeping the law. The law is for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, for whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for men stealers, for liars, for perjured persons…” What will be the consequences for committing these acts of sin? Take note,

And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:15) Those that are written in the Book of Life use the Law lawfully.

This is the time for people to make a change in there lives if need be. If you above ground, make that change, because Jesus is not coming back with compassion. Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; (II Thessalonians 1:6-9)
Jesus didn't directly address homosexuality, but the following is clear:

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
- Romans 3:23

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
- Romans 6:23

Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
- Matthew 7:1-2

Also Jesus says in John 7: 24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment. This is thread is speaking on the law, this is righteous Judgement according to the laws and Commandment of God. Another example in Luke 12: 54 And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is. 55 And when ye see the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass. 56 Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time? 57 Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right? We as a people suppose to judge what is right, we use judgement for everything else but when is comes to sodomy we judge not. We allow laws to support this abomination act, etc.

Let’s take a look at a scripture to clarify this statement. Take note!

And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD. (Genesis 4:1)

What happened after Adam “knew” his wife? She conceived, and bare Cain.

The accounts of Sodom and Gomorrah and the Levite’s experience with the Benjamin’s, let’s us know that the act of “knowing” someone of the same sex, or as otherwise known as homosexuality, is a sin that is punishable by death.

What does God think about allowing homosexuals/sodomites to dwell among His people? He is clear about Israel’s stand on this issue as evidenced by scriptures in the Bible.

In I Kings 14:21 the Lord identified sodomites that were co-habituating with the Israelites:

And Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD did choose out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother's name was Naamah an Ammonite. And Judah did evil in the sight of the LORD, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they had committed, above all that their fathers had done. For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree. And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD cast out before the children of Israel. (I Kings 14:21-24)

Note what the scripture says, “Judah did evil in the sight of the LORD, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they had committed, above all that their fathers had done.” These men of Judah not only built temples to pagan gods, they allowed sodomites/homosexuals to dwell among them. Note what the Lord had Moses to write in regards to this:

There shall be no harlot of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel. (Deuteronomy 23:17)

The lord have not changed his ways. For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed (Malachi 3:6) or Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

Therefore Israelites (which are also considered Negroes, African Americans, blacks so on and so forth) that were removed from their land and brought to the northern hemisphere in the hulls of ships and who were sold into slavery do not have a chance! The Lord said, “There shall be no sodomite of the sons of Israel!” Take a look at the next verse and pay close attention what the Lord calls a sodomite/homosexual.

Thou shalt not bring the hire of a harlot, or the price of a dog, into the house of the LORD thy God for any vow: for even both these are abominations unto the LORD thy God. (Deuteronomy 23:18)

Price of a dog? In the 17th verse it states, “There shall be no harlot of the daughters of Israel.” In the 18th verse it states, “Thou shalt not bring the hire of a harlot.” The 17th verse states, “nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel.” Note the change in the 18th verse, “or the price of a dog.” The Lord provides a clear picture in his parallel comparison between the two verses of whom he compares sodomites and harlots with the likeness of. Think about that for a moment.

There shall be no harlot of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel. (Deuteronomy 23:17)

Note an alternative translation of these passages:

"Now Rehoboam son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city that the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. His mother’s name was Naamah the Ammonite. Judah did what was evil in the sight of the Lord; they provoked him to jealousy with their sins that they committed, more than all that their ancestors had done. For they also built for themselves high places, pillars, and sacred poles on every high hill and under every green tree; there were also illicit priests in the land. They committed all the abominations of the nations that the Lord had driven out before the people of Israel." [I Kings 14:21-24, NRSV]

“None of the daughters of Israel shall serve in an illicit shrine; none of the sons of Israel shall serve in an illicit shrine. You shall not bring the fee of a prostitute or the wages of a dog into the house of the Lord your God in payment for any vow, for both of these are abhorrent to the Lord your God." [Deuteronomy 23:17-18 NRSV]

Therefore Israelites (which are also considered Negroes, African Americans, blacks so on and so forth) that were removed from their land and brought to the northern hemisphere in the hulls of ships and who were sold into slavery do not have a chance!

Where on earth is this coming from?

In light of the fact that homosexuals are often mistreated, I can't help but wonder if early commands against it have more to do with protecting them from said mistreatment. Shielding them from harm. Much suffering might be avoided by remaining celibate or acting straight. On the other hand, there are Christians who seemingly go out of their way to make LGBTQ+ people suffer, which makes it look like Christians are part of the problem. They mostly seem like hypocrites to me because Jesus said we should love or neighbors as we love ourselves. Gay people are counted among our neighbors. At the very least, we could mind our own business.

That said, I don't usually consider it any of my business. I don't experience same sex attraction myself, but I also don't like it when people are harassed or bullied. That part bothers me quite a bit. Especially, when done in the name of Jesus, who I'm reasonably confident would not partake in the bullying.

Last I checked, Christianity isn't a religion of public stonings or other such things. That ended with Christ. We are not under Levitical law. It's about the individual's personal relationship with God. If somebody reads God's word and feels convicted by the holy spirit that being gay is wrong, the change comes from within. A place that they must arrive at of their own free will for it to be meaningful.
We are called not to fellowship with those who are known sinners who refuse to repent.

That is a general guideline for church membership. It doesn't mean they aren't our neighbors and it doesn't mean God views homosexuality as inherently worse than other sins. It also isn't necessarily obvious whether someone will have a change of heart.

With this in mind, I think there is more to gain by looking inward. If we focus on our own challenges and God's grace, while also treating others as Jesus would treat them, that would be less likely to discourage seekers and others from finding God.

What does the God of the creation think about homosexuality? He is very clear on identifying the act of homosexuality as a sin, or should I say an abomination. If an individual sows iniquity, they will reap corruption. Those of us that believe and know the Truth are not careful to say…“There is a pestilence in the land because of ‘homosexual’ activity.” There has been an increase in the acceptance of homosexuality in our country as indicated by the figures collected by the U.S. Census. FEB. 24, 2021 – The U.S. Census Bureau announced the release of a new report that examines characteristics and geographic distribution of the nation’s estimated 980,000 same-sex couple households. The report, “Same-Sex Couple Households: 2019,” is based on 2019 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates. The ACS is the leading source for community and local-level data. About 58% of couples in the nation’s 980,000 same-sex households were married and about 42% were unmarried partners. Among both married and unmarried same-sex couples, there were more female than male couple households. Eleven states plus the District of Columbia had higher percentages of same-sex couple households (among coupled households) than the national average of 1.5%, with Washington, D.C., having the highest at 7.1%. The San Francisco-Oakland-Berkeley, CA Metropolitan/Micropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), the Portland-Vancouver-Hillsboro, OR-WA MSA, and the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, WA MSA were among metro areas with the highest percentages of same-sex couple households. Both same- and opposite-sex married couple households were more likely than unmarried couple households to have children under 18 present. But same-sex married couple households were about half as likely as opposite-sex married couples to have children.

Even though the masses may accept this let’s see what the Most High God thinks about this subject. We will take a look at the Law first. Once we have established homosexuality as being a sin, then we will look at the Lord’s wrath being poured out because of this abomination.

Let’s go into Leviticus the 20th chapter and read the 13th verse. If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. (Leviticus 20:13)

“….they shall surely be put to death...” Being that we are under the new covenant, which are the same laws that were given to Moses, no man is clean enough to put anyone to death, the Lord will take care of that Judgment at his second coming.

Paul says......He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses (Hebrews 10:28.) It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Hebrews 10:31).

For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. (Hebrews 10:26-27)

We must remember brothers and sisters, Moses was on mount Horeb for forty days and forty nights. He received many more laws than the Ten Commandments. For example, there were more laws made between Moses and the Lord that were not classified as one of the ten. Take a look at Deuteronomy 29:1:

These are the words of the covenant, which the LORD commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, beside the covenant which he made with them in Horeb. (Deuteronomy 29:1)

Notice what the scripture says, “beside the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.” We see that other Laws were given to Moses alongside the covenant (Ten Commandments). An individual might say, “Those laws were for the tribes of Israel.” Well, let’s see if the Lords laws only apply to the sons and daughters of Jacob.

Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the LORD your God. (Leviticus 24:22)

One manner of law for Israel, as well as for the rest of the sons of Adam. Let’s back up to Leviticus the 18th chapter and start at the 22nd verse.

Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion. Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: (Leviticus 18:22-24)

Note what the scripture says, “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.” Note something else in this set of scriptures. “Defile not yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you.” This statement should have a person shaking in their boots. When the Lord cast out the Canaanites, He sent the children of Israel into these countries to cast these nations out because of sin. The sons of Jacob did not go alone to do battle. His mighty angels went with them as long as they kept themselves from sin. This is not a game sisters and brothers; the God of the creation is serious. When He returns at His second coming He will deal with man face to face. We must keep ourselves from willful sin. But, people try to make excuses for everything that is contrary to the word of God. As seen by modern medicine’s explanation of homosexuality: “With the birth of modern psychiatry, homosexuality came to be viewed widely as less a sin than a sickness. This attitude derived from unscientific research into the origin and nature of homosexuality, unscientific because based solely on studies of maladjusted psychiatric patients. Theories arising from such research suggested that disorders in family relationships, particularly mother-son relationships, give rise to homosexual behavior. Such theories, based on the assumption that homosexuals are necessarily psychologically abnormal, are not convincing. Quote from Grolier multimedia encyclopedia).

What do I think God thinks? I could be completely off base, but I think the Lord thinks of Homosexuality in essentially the same way He does of Straight Folk Fornication and other Adulterated proclivities where body counts are racked up and relationships are just wacked.

On Judgment Day there's not going to be a medal given to those who can say, "Well, at least I was straight."

When one is disfellowshipped they are not neighbors
If they are kicked out of a congregation, they are no longer members, but they remain neighbors. Even if they become our enemies, which is more than simply being homosexual, we are told to love them.

You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

We are told not to fellowship. For a little leaven, leavens the whole.

Which does not negate the fact that they remain our neighbors and we are called to love even our enemies. They are made in God's image like the rest of us.

A sinner that is not repentant is not necessarily our enemy. Be that as it may disfellowship is done with morning.
1Cor 5:2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.

We are called not to fellowship with those who are known sinners who refuse to repent.

Every single person i came across got cut out.

Once i started the audit - no one got through.

Pretty much everyone i came across had sins on them that they
1) didn't accept was a sin and so refused to repent,
2) repeated the sin after repenting - like a pattern
3) sin shifted. did a sin, then repented and did a different sin, then repented and did another different sin and repented again. so their repentance was meaningless.

Now, here i am in my metaphorical castle - enjoying righteousness on my own - looking down at all you fools who cant get your act together !!!!

Repent, for if we are sinning willfully there remains no more sacrifice for sin, Only judgement and fiery indignation.
