Violent crime in Washington D.C. is at a thirty year low and Toledo, Dayton, and Cleveland all had a higher crime rate than Washington D.C. in 2024.“This is not a national emergency,” said VALOR Media Network President Kenneth Harbaugh. “The impact on the morale of these soldiers on the ground is palpable when they are pulled away from their families, when they have to miss birthdays and graduations and the beginning of school and things like that to go guard a Shake Shack.”
“The current deployments … and the ones that are being contemplated in other places throughout the country in the near future are unnecessary and disruptive to the lives of all these citizen soldiers,” said Christopher Dziubek, retired U.S. Army Brigadier General.
“Our loved ones are being deployed, not for defense, not for disaster relief, not for emergencies, but for missions that are vague, polarizing, and even cosmetic,” said Brandi Jones, an Ohio military spouse and co-executive director of Secure Families Initiative.

Americans are paying close attention to the prolonged Epstein controversy. Our polling finds that 3 in 4 respondents have heard, read or seen “a lot” or “some” about Epstein.
Moreover, most believe that Trump is fumbling the matter.
Seven in 10 Americans believe that Trump is handling the matter “not well.” This includes pluralities of Trump’s most loyal supporters, 43% of Republicans, 43% of conservatives, and 47% of those who voted for him in 2024.
When we drill down on the 47% of 2024 Trump voters who disapprove of Trump’s handling of the Epstein controversy, we find significant cracks in the MAGA facade. Among members of this group, 28% now disapprove of Trump as president.

DC mayor now admits Trumps so called take over has actually reduced crime. This liberal politician actually putting the safety of the citizens she is over in more importance than the party talking points. Kudos for the honesty of the liberal DC mayor.

Maybe so. But I notice that repeated attempts by the administration to distract Americans from the issue have failed to make much of an impact so far.
I suspect that if we got the whole story, Trump would be just one of many wealthy people involved in this mess. But I expect that they have already been working to cover their tracks.

If you put crowds of people in uniform into high crime areas, it will reduce crime. Criminals don't like exposure. We'll have to see if it actually translates into some kind of lasting change.

There will only be “lasting change “ when the liberal policies that helped to create the problem change. Sanctuary cities, demonizing law enforcement, cashless bail, and similar policies. The DC mayor should be praised for her honesty in presenting just the facts without liberal biases in this case.

Seeing as illegal aliens are much less likely to commit crimes than are native-born Americans, one would think sanctuary cities would have lower crime rates than similar cities. I wonder if anyone has looked at that... (Barbarian checks)

Again and again, studies show that there is no correlation between sanctuary policies and increased crime. A 2017 study examined overall violent crime, property crime, and assault rates in U.S. cities from 2000 through 2014 both before and after the implementation of sanctuary policies. The findings of this study and others show no statistical relationship between an increase in crime rates and implementation of sanctuary policies. There is, on the other hand, a documented decrease in crime in cities and states that prioritize welcoming instead of targeting immigrants. Data from a 2017 study by Professor Tom Wong, NILC and CAP found that sanctuary jurisdictions report higher median household income, less poverty, higher employment-to-population ratios, and lower unemployment rates.

This makes sense, seeing as illegal immigrants tend to be more law-abiding than native-born Americans.
There are huge differences in the way citizens regard police in different cities, based on the way police interact with citizens. In most cities, a relatively small number of lawless officers account for most of the complaints and bribery/abuse/corruption cases. We have all seen cases where police departments have become abusive to citizens, but it's not a very large number of cases. Where there has been a problem with a relatively few bad apples, reforming qualified immunity to make each officer responsible for his or her conduct, has been effective.
Do you have any data showing that reducing or eliminating bail requirements has led to higher crime rates?

Apparently, they have been, for a rather long time. Crime rates in D.C. are a fraction of what they were decades ago.
The WH is eager to deflect attention from Trump's personal problems, but this doesn't seem to be very effective in that effort.

Neither the Mayor of D.C. nor I had anything to "admit." It's only common sense that putting bodies on the street will deter crime....at least temporarily....long enough for Trump brag....
Meanwhile, hundreds of agents from ATF, FBI, DEA etc have been pulled off their real jobs to perform guard duty.
