Ruling claims humans 'evolved over several million years'

A federal judge has issued a temporary injunction blocking a Texas law that would have mandated the display of the Ten Commandments in every public school classroom across the state.

In his ruling on Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Fred Biery in San Antonio temporarily prohibited 11 Texas school districts from displaying the Ten Commandments.

The Clinton appointee said a lawsuit filed by a coalition of Dallas-area families, faith leaders and civil liberties advocates raised questions about the constitutionality of Senate Bill 10, which would have required the displays in schools statewide starting September 1.

The decision marks the third time a federal court has struck down such a state-level requirement, following similar rulings in Louisiana and Kentucky.

Biery's 55-page ruling emphasized the potential impact on students and teachers, noting that "even though the Ten Commandments would not be affirmatively taught, the captive audience of students likely would have questions, which teachers would feel compelled to answer. That is what they do."

Desert religion? Jesus told us to preach to the whole world.

Also, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam
aren’t the only Abrahamic religions. They’re just the largest.

(Some include Samaritanism, Mandaeism, Druze, Yarsanism, Bahai, among others as Abrahamic religions as well).

The judge must have been misinformed.

Fantastic! For the same reason, fundamentalists don't want Hindu or Muslim scriptures displayed everywhere in school. I swear, some people cannot think through an obvious causal chain. In search of freedom, people have somehow forgotten what freedom is. Freedom is being able to not be accosted at every turn by someone else's religion, ideology, or shear stupidity. If you open the door for the Decalogue, you open the door for anything. Myopic dogmatists with power will surely be our downfall.

I do agree with you here.

Technically, the United States is not a Christian nation. We are a secular nation.

Not to mention, the number of founding fathers who were deists and NOT Christian, including the 3rd President, Thomas Jefferson.

Religion of state is a phenomenon that most don't consider when pronouncing the US as historically or currently secular.

I don't do politics, as I find it very divisive and inflammatory despite best intentions, but above is something to consider.

The context of what he said doesn't say this. He made a very well informed ruling.
