There are married priests in the Eastern rite and Anglican Ordinariate. In some cases, priests who converted from Protestant denominations who are married are allowed to keep their wives and children.
It’s a discipline, not a doctrine.

It would do nothing toward eliminating homosexual clergy. While some Catholic priests are married, for singles who are ordained into the priesthood celibacy is a discipline they accept if they wish to be a priest.

It could have been worse in the latter part of the last century. But now they do intensive screening and reporting, and for many years the number of new credible abuse cases each year in the United States has been in the single digits.

Dr. Fèdèric Martel has a PhD in social science, and master’s degrees in law, political science, philosophy, social science. He is a visiting professor at Harvard and since 2025, is a professor at the University of Zurich. He spent four years traveling to more than thirty countries interviewing 1,500 priests, bishops and cardinals. Dr. Martel is homosexual who researches and writes about same-sex cultures in the modern world. He became interested in the Vatican and its culture of homophobia. Just a question; I'm curious. Isn't it perfectly acceptable in the RCC to be gay and a priest so long as one is celibate? I take it the scandal is that some are not being celibate. But if homosexuality were prevalent among priests (and more so the higher one goes in the hierarchy), and they were all legitimately celibate, it would not be an issue, right? Or, would it still be an issue?
