U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday he believes that helping negotiate an end to the Ukraine-Russia war might help him get to Heaven.

Trump called into the Fox News program "Fox & Friends" for a phone interview on Tuesday morning, one day after he hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other European leaders at the White House as part of the ongoing efforts to end the war in Ukraine, which began with Russia's invasion in 2022.

The president provided updates on efforts to end the war. He lamented the toll it was taking on the lives of Russian and Ukrainian soldiers as well as civilians residing in both countries.

Trump maintained that ending the war could "save 7,000 people a week from being killed."

"I want to try and get to Heaven if possible," the 79-year-old said. "I'm hearing I'm not doing well."

He needs someone to explain the gospel to him. We don't get to Heaven by our own efforts - none of us are good enough. We go there if we have repented of our sins and believe that Jesus, the Son of God, took the punishment for them when He died on the cross and then accept His death in our place and yield our life to Him.

I pray for someone around him to present him with the Gospel. While saving lives is a noble endeavor, what is required is to give up the sin and the show and a proud heart before God.

Perhaps, in the face of death, there is an opportunity to present him with the Truth. May the Lord give him ears to hear and a heart to understand. It would certainly help the United States if our President was following Jesus.

You have to wonder why no one, on the right, would explain that this doesn't matter. It's a problem with many Christians.

I certainly pray for Trump. I pray that he opens up his heart to the love of our heavenly Father.

Last I heard Paula White-Cain was his "spiritual advisor". I admit I'm not a fan of the prosperity gospel. But, as far as I know, doesn't she preach salvation by grace not works?

It is noteworthy to do good works, but Jesus is the only way to Heaven.
