Dr. Fèdèric Martel has a PhD in social science, and master’s degrees in law, political science, philosophy, social science. As far as homosexuality, sometimes you just have to tell yourself "no" to certain behaviors. It's the same with drug addicts, etc. Nobody expects it to be easy, but to follow Christ you have to pick up your cross and bear your sufferings. I'm a widow, I could be dating like crazy. My life sure would be a lot less lonely. But, in following Christ, I realized that I had to focus on Him, not myself. After clearing the addicts out of my life, I've made a few friends who's focus isn't on getting high all the time. Anyway, homosexual behavior, like any other sin, is not a life sentence. And I definitely have splinters in my eye too.

Well said! Unfortunately, they do anything to justify their sin. As I sadly have to live with this situation.

We talked about this several weeks ago, but why are there so many gay clergy in Catholicism compared to clergy from other denominations?

No. Homosexuals can marry now. I think it has to do more with culture a family expectations. Latino families expect marriage and grandchildren. If that does not happen, they are encouraged to the priesthood. I believe most are devout in the beginning and basically see it as the best option. Either way, homosexual or not, celibacy is expected. And many do practice it faithfully. But I expect if they find other men such as themselves, temptation abounds. Last I read it is the Episcopal Church that has a higher rate of homosexual clergy than the RCC. But they are not held to the same standards expected from the RCC as far as discipline.

Back in the past being a priest was the perfect cover and escape from familial and societal expectations. I’m sure it still is. But that does not make these men any less sincere if they felt a genuine calling to the priesthood. Again, homosexual or not, they are all called to celibacy.

And remember, marriage is not an insurance policy against sexual desire and preferences.

Ever heard of the Metropolitan Community Church? It was actually founded by a gay man that originally only had gay members. The first straight member was the founder’s mother.

I think they’re liturgical and celebrate Communion weekly.

I know one of their ministers became a Catholic priest later on.
