Trump goes after mail-in voting and election machines; "States are merely an “agent” for the Federal Government", must do what President says

Getting rid of machines or mail-in voting does nothing to make voting safer or more secure. Trump is not even claiming that it does (apart from lies about what other countries have done). His beef seems to be that elections need to be called on election night. Maybe he should look into allowing states to count ballots as they are received, rather than having to wait to count them last after the election day ballots are counted.
No. It just makes it harder for people to cheat. BTW, remind me how long democrats were counting ballots after the 2020 election.

You mean a system that takes much longer to count, and is far more prone to human error? Why would anyone have a problem with that??

But, as to rigging an election, that already seems a lot harder to do than some might wish to suggest. Especially in view of the fact that no one has ever been able to prove any such thing happened on any significant scale.

-- A2SG, unsubstantiated conspiracy theories notwithstanding.....
And a system that liberals accused of being hacked by the Russians. And a system that Republicans have said we're double counting votes? I just dont get it. Why now, all of a sudden, is making elections more secure a bad thing? Oh, I know the answer, Trump.

Why now? Putin whispered in Trump's ear...and a couple days later, Trump is talking of EO's to eliminate mail ballots.

I hope President Trump implements these before voting begins in 2026.

Based on projections for the US economy next year, Democratic Party may secure a majority of at least 60 seats in the House of Representatives. If election irregularities are addressed by that time, there would be fewer challenges to the DNC assuming control of Congress.

I support President Trump in addressing voting issues to ensure a secure 2026 election that Americans can trust.
So we are clear… You’re worried that the democratic process may lead to “your side” losing seats, so you’d like the process subverted in order to stay in power?

He never did get over losing to Biden by several million votes, did he? Instead of running on his successes (there aren’t very many) he has to disenfranchise the voters.

No, they claimed Russians interfered with the election. And that was proven sufficiently to the tune of several guilty verdicts (and guilty pleads) from members of the Trump administration.

And a system that Republicans have said we're double counting votes?
Is there evidence of this, or is it like every other GOP "claim" during the 2020 election?

I just dont get it. Why now, all of a sudden, is making elections more secure a bad thing? Oh, I know the answer, Trump.
No one has said elections being secure is a bad thing. Only that the claims of an unsecured election, from Trump and his acolytes, is wildly exaggerated.

No, people will just go to a voting booth, punch holes in a card, and then drop it in a box. Going on about tanks and the like comes off as crazy talk.
Will that prevent the submission of fake electoral votes like Trump tried in 2020?

I am not a Democrat or Republican; I simply support the American people.

My point is that regardless of any changes the Trump administration makes to voting methods, Democrats will win more than 60 seats in the House.

The economy is central, and President Trump's tariffs make a recession likely next year. Independent and swing voters who supported him in 2024 most likely vote Democrats in hopes of changing direction.

I'm sure some states will take Trump's suggestions under serious consideration.

However, the president has no authority to tell the states how to run their elections. Any executive order attempting to do so would be blatantly unconstitutional. My state is guaranteed to ignore Trump and continue with mail-in voting.
hmm

I believe that the federal government has some authority over the methods of federal elections.

It is the counting that is the issue.

If the issue is earlier results, mail-in ballots should not be counted if received after Election Day. And yes, counting should begin at least on the morning of Election Day with no results reported until after the polls close.

To be specific, the federal Congress has some authority over the methods of federal elections according to Article 1, Section 4 of the US Constitution. The president does not.

Yeah several million more votes than anyone running for president has ever gotten before or after. Bit fishy.

"Pound sand"

If Trump attempts to ban mail-in voting, [AZ Sec of State] Fontes told Axios, "After I tell him to pound sand, I will probably ask the attorney general to file suit."
In a statement to Axios, Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes said Trump "has zero authority to interfere in Arizona's elections" and she'll "vigorously fight any unlawful attempt by the federal government to tell Arizona how we can administer" them.

Fun fact:

Nearly 75% of Arizona voters cast their ballots by mail in the 2024 general election, per a report by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission.

....and we have been voting by mail for over 30 years.

What’s fishy about it? If you expand access to voting, more people vote. Not exactly rocket surgery.

And the new tariffs only began to be levied this month.

Will Donald be voting by mail again this year as he has in past years or will we be seeing him in a voting booth?

There are two categories of Trump supporters concerning this issue:

  • One group maintains that widespread voter fraud occurs in American elections and asserts that the 2020 election was rigged against President Trump.
  • The other group does not believe there is significant voter fraud and accepts the outcome of the 2020 election.

Among these, those who believe in widespread voter fraud are typically resistant to logical debate. However, it is notable that many Trump voters who accept the results of the 2020 election often remain silent when confronted with claims of voter fraud, despite recognizing that such allegations can contribute to misinformation and undermine democratic processes in the United States. This silence persist because all supporters, regardless of their stance, are considered valuable for electoral victory.

My humble opinion is that individuals who understand the integrity of the election yet choose to remain silent for political gain potentially have a more detrimental impact on democracy than those who hold erroneous beliefs.

We don't yet know what changes President Trump intends to implement. I am not concerned with his Truth Social posts. Until concrete actions are taken, I will reserve judgment on whether these changes are unconstitutional. Ultimately, I believe it's up to the Supreme Court to make that determination.
