I hope the last true public servants we had were prudent enough to keep records from the disbanding departments, etc. so that after Trump's "cultural revolution" (aka demolition) we can get back to normal. With scientists curing diseases instead of quacks threatening our health. With consumer protections instead of rapacious oligarchs. With education instead of indoctrination. With PBS and NPR instead of a game show host playing Gong Show in the Kennedy Center.

The Japanese-American internment camps were often nothing more than makeshift barracks, with families and children cramped together behind barbed wires. Most of the internees were U.S. citizens from the West Coast who were forced to abandon or liquidate their businesses when war relocation authorities escorted them to the camps.
John Tateishi says the experience was both humiliating and disorienting. "We came out of these camps with a sense of shame and guilt, of having been considered betrayers of our country." He says that after the war most families never spoke about it. "There were no complaints, no big rallies or demands for justice because it was not the Japanese way."

I agree, and I won't even limit that to US citizens.

Though, it should be noted that the order to intern them was an executive order, not a vote in Congress, so responsibility falls solely on Roosevelt, not on the Democratic party. Also, while we may now disagree with the order, the SCOTUS did uphold the constitutionality of the order by the end of the war.

FDR was the elected Democrat, both houses of Congress were controlled by the Democrats, and in the Senate they had a super majority. Congress could have acted but instead they backed FDR.

It's not "the media" reporting the truth about Alligator Alcatraz. It is a delegation of Congressmen, mostly Democratic, who by law are permitted to visit these prison facilities.

These are "my" Congressmen, since I don't have any Congressmen in my own state who represent the priorities and values I cherish. I trust their reports implicitly because I know that they are looking at these facilities with eyes that are not tainted with xenophobia and hate.

Any alien who (1) enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers, or (2) eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers, or (3) attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact, shall, for the first commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both, and, for a subsequent commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18, or imprisoned not more than 2 years, or both.

Innocent until proven guilty - Their presence is direct evidence of guilt. It's really an obvious thing - the due process is then described. There it is - plain as day.

Even those who are indicted with overwhelming evidence, like the current president, sometimes get lucky (although the lucky ones usually have an abundance on money and connections). There was plenty of direct evidence of guilt against the current president, and the documented possession of hundreds of boxes of highly classified and even top secret material in MarALago was open and shut, but yet he got due process, and after spending $100 million on lawyers and handpicking a Supreme Court, he wiggled out of trouble.

Why shouldn't immigrants get the same due process?

So let them have their day in court with legal representation, just like any other accused defendant. If we held to the standard you're suggesting here, Donald Trump would have been jailed immediately upon being accused. His crimes were no less obvious, but he still had his day in court and due process before his guilt was proven.

So how do you get 700 open positions filled? How do you propose getting 700 people to move to DC and be police officers?

How do you propose getting judges to stop releasing criminals back onto the street.

The NG aren't police. They aren't arresting people for committing crimes. But its performing their legal duties.

The miserable dangerous conditions don't just harm the detainees but also the workers there. They may eat better and have decent toilets, but the heat, humidity, mosquitoes and disease affect them adversely as well.
