"Americans who visit the Smithsonian museums in Washington, D.C., might expect to learn about the factual history of the United States, to view American art and artifacts, and to be inspired by tales of American courage and valor. But visitors are often greeted with overt ideological content, gender ideology, and LGBTQ propaganda, or aggressive reframing of events like the COVID-19 pandemic or the Black Lives Matter movement. . .
That includes the National Museum of American History, where visitors were greeted upon entry by a “Pride Progress” flag that consists of the white, pink, purple, black, and brown stripes representing the transgender pride flag and “LGBTQ people of color.” That flag is featured at the museum’s entrance on Constitution Avenue, according to tourists and visitors of the Smithsonian."

Time for our children to learn real history and not framing American history in terms of LGBTQ and transgenderism.

And another left-wing spin is likely to be that Trump is defunding the Smithsonian of vital assets. Or perhaps even that Trump is getting rid of the Smithsonian altogether. Whereas in reality Trump is just swatting away the LGBT infestation of most everything; churches, schools, libraries, museums, government buildings, even the White House.

When was the last time you went to the Smithsonian? What specifically do they say, do, or display that angers you?

Not general boogeymen about anti-Americanism and LGBTQA+ people. What specific signs, exhibits, and displays do you think do not accurately display history or science?

Nobody is obligated to answer personal questions because they posted a news article. It's best to discuss the article itself, rather than make the conversation about person who posted it.

Since his administration was responsible for purging American heroes from websites, removing pictures of presidents from the White House, putting up cheesy shlock pictures of Trump with Reagan and Lincoln--an overreach which must have them turning in their graves--he is not the arbiter of history.
Textbooks that say the slaves were happy? Uh-uh.
Huckabee's appalling "Kids Guides" about what "woke"means and other nonsense?
The "Trump Bible" bought at high cost in every Oklahoma School enhanced with the Declaration of Independence and a Constitution shredded by his stacked Supreme Court?
Thanks to the internet, the truth can't be erased. Obscured maybe.
Colored plain vanilla maybe.
Never forget George Washington Carver invented the cotton gin...a tiny bit of history I learned in 1960. And no, the slaves weren't singing "jump down turn around pick a bale of cotton."

The cotton gin was first used in 1794. George Washington Carver was born 70 years later in 1864.

Asking what exhibit one specifically disagrees with as a result of their sharing an article and making a claim is hardly a personal question.

If one is not equipped with the information to answer the question, perhaps they should keep their opinions to themselves. Or if they find answering such questions to be too personal, just avoid forums all together.

Gee, last I checked, trans and LGBT people were Americans too.

So are Punks and Goths and Furries. Where are their exhibits?
The first two are depicted in Museum of American History, 1 West. Talked about fashion culture and subsets within. There’s also online resources that tell you where to find it in their libraries (Gothic to goth : romantic era fashion & its legacy / Lynne Zacek Bassett | Smithsonian Institution) and they had a rotating exhibit that had a lot of information about the punk movement and its pioneers at the National Portrait Gallery (American Cool | National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution).

Hope that helps.

Nobody is obligated to do anything but this is a “discussion and debate” forum so it’s kind of the point to ask people some follow ups and find out where they might stand on the stories they’re sharing. Your shutting down of a question that’s not even directed at you seems uncalled for. You are nobody to be shutting down discussion just because you don’t like where the question might lead.

The kids don't need to learn the latest pronouns. English should come first, then math and history. They need to know that communist governments killed over a hundred million people. They need to know that this is not the first time Jews have been persecuted

All this because Trump needs to change the subject away from his rapist friend Jeffery Epstein and his authoritarian takeover of DC. Shameful but not a surprise anymore.

Pronouns are part of the English language, ya know.

They need to know that communist governments killed over a hundred million people. They need to know that this is not the first time Jews have been persecuted
So who's trying to prevent those exhibits?

-- A2SG, not me, certainly....

Do they also need to know that Israel's current president is practicing genocide and ethnic cleansing in Gaza, committing horrible atrocities, and considering sending them to the disease ridden, war torn, famine plagued country of South Sudan to let them finish the job with the ones he hasn't already directly killed?

And they should learn about Strange Fruit, the Lavender Scare, Jeffrey Amherst, Japanese detention, the Trail of Tears, the Tulsa Massacre, Nat Turner, John Brown, Fort Pillow, the Chinese Exclusion Act, the Wilmington Coup, etc.

...and PragerU programing to replace PBS programing?

The right-wing media company that may be Trump’s pick to take overtake traditional public broadcasting networks has a video where a cartoon of Christopher Columbus minimizes slavery.

A clip circulating on the web from the right-wing media company PragerU, which the Trump administration has partnered with, suggests that slavery was “no big deal.”

“Being taken as a slave is better than being killed, no?” the clip says. “Before you judge, you must ask yourself, ‘What did the culture and the society of the time treat as no big deal?'”

Yes, George Washington Carver invented numerous peanut products. There's a national monument for him in Missouri on the location he grew up. I've visited there and it is very serene.

PBS simply never reformed itself. They could have at least tried to take simple steps to be objective. For exampe, instead of using the term "far right" for those who disagreed with them they could have attempted to us the terms "far right" and "far left" around the same number of times.
