A YouTuber that is from Munich, Germany, but has lived in the US for the last decade (and is now a naturalized US citizen), created a video about what Germans think of Donald Trump and the US. She basically breaks it into three sections: 1) what German media is saying about the US, 2) what German opinion polls show about German's opinions about the US, and 3) comments from her viewers on the topic.

A few things the video seems to show are that most German media, all the media other than those that directly support the ADF political party, have negative articles about Donald Trump and his administration. Second, German public opinion appears to be strongly against Donald Trump, with roughly 80% of Germany disapproving of Donald Trump and his policies and 3) her German viewers comments largely echoing the disapproval of Donald Trump, with many (including an 80-year old viewer who was a child when Hitler rose to power) pointing out how much the Trump administration being very similar to the early days of Hitler and the Nazi Party in Germany, with the warning that Trump is acting like the fascists.

I thought it would be an interesting view into German opinions-- and to some degree, the opinion of most of our European NATO allies -- of Trump and US politics, and a chance to discuss their views and comments.

Not a great idea for someone in that position.

So it's "Trump is worse than Hitler".
I think it’s that he fails even for a dictator.

Thank goodness for the rest of us.

Godwin law. lol
Hitler is actually really bad comparison to Trump. Here's why:

Hitler is primarily known for his evil racist genocidal ideology and efforts. He was a supreme ideologue, committed to an evil ideology. Trump does not share that.

Trump is much more interested in personal aggrandizement, being seen as the most awesome and best, accumulating the esteem of others based on power, money, and charisma. He's really not motivated by a raging hate of others let alone whole other "races", even if he does reveal mildly racist tendencies here and there.

What Trump does share with Hitler is a willingness - perhaps not on level with Hitler's sheer drive, but still a willingness - to subvert small r republican order to achieve and consolidate power.

Basically Hitler burned hot with ideologically evil fervor and commitment. Trump is just ambitious self aggrandizing low life who will run with whatever his favorite sycophants say will bring him great praises. And his ideological nihilism leaves him with zero commitment to republican order.

That's a lot better. I can understand people not liking Trump, not liking his way of doing things, not liking his goals. But too many go way overboard in expressing that to where it just sounds nutty.

This is just the usual anti-trump trope that we saw during his first presidency. I doubt that the replies that were used weren't cherry picked. While Trump will do things that liberal progressives consider serious, it's highly doubtful Trump will do anything historically horrific. And for the greater part the US and the rest of the world will go on as usual for the next 3.4 years. And the hype, hyperbole, sensationalism, and paranoia most likely isn't going to match a much more ordinary reality.

And what Australian's think of some aspects of this administration: Poll shows Australians hate Trump policies and have lost trust in US, but still strongly believe in alliance

More than eight in ten (81%) disapproved of Trump’s use of tariffs to pressure other countries to comply with his administration’s objectives.

Three-quarters disapproved of the US withdrawing from the World Health Organization (76%) and from international climate change agreements (74%).

In addition, three-quarters (74%) disapproved of Trump negotiating a deal on the future of Ukraine with Russian President Vladimir Putin that might require Ukraine to accept a loss of territory. The dramatic Oval Office showdown between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US Vice President JD Vance took place just before the survey.

Australians also disapproved of the US cutting spending on foreign aid (64%) and undertaking mass deportations of undocumented migrants (56%).

Why would anyone have set her up to make such a video? Perhaps you should watch it and see what is included, rather than just make bad assumptions. From what she stated, this is a question she gets from people wanting to know, since she is German, what other Germans think about Trump. As such, she examined what she could find in German media, public opinion polling, and posted asking for comments on social media. It seemed like she attempted to give an honest view of what she discovered, and she appears to try to show both sides.

As for the 80 year old, I'll agree that is too young, but that could just be a mistake I made (either in what I heard or trying to remember what she said).

This is just the usual anti-trump trope that we saw during his first presidency.

Oh, you watched the video before coming to that conclusion?

I doubt that the replies that were used weren't cherry picked.

Oh, so you haven't actually seen the video, you are just making poor assumptions (much like Robban) and deciding it must be "fake." Just to inform you, though, she does include things from Germans that supports Trump.

So 80% of Germans are "liberal progressives?" Or, perhaps, they just have a different view, a different perspective, since they are looking at how Pres. Trump is affecting Europe and NATO? Regardless, I think it is worthwhile to see what they think, particularly since it also affects their perception of the US over the longer term.
