You know what, I think thats just fine. I have absolutely zero problems with parents being able to opt out of certain curriculum they dont want to have their children subjected to.
You think it fine to teach conspiracy theories in school?

To lead the state’s executive review committee, Walters has selected a veritable who’s who of Christian nationalist propaganda and misinformation: David Barton, Dennis Prager and Kevin Roberts.

This month, Oklahoma’s Department of Education announced an innovative approach to screening aspiring teachers in the state: Any applicants from “woke” states would need to first pass an ideology test created by the right-wing group PragerU.

Under this plan, teachers from states with “progressive education policies” [second link mentions only CA and NY as being subject to the new ideology test] would be tested on the U.S. Constitution, American exceptionalism, and “the fundamental biological differences between boys and girls.” The screening is guaranteed to assess teachers on a deeply MAGA-inflected understanding of U.S. history, government, and society: PragerU, which has a stated mission of countering leftism in education, is known for its white nationalist–adjacent content for schoolchildren.

A sneaky way of imposing a religious test for public office. A wolf in wolf's clothing. How cute.

It's like they can't even read their own constitution:

SECTION II-5. Public money or property - Use for sectarian purposes.
No public money or property shall ever be appropriated, applied,

donated, or used, directly or indirectly, for the use, benefit, or
support of any sect, church, denomination, or system of religion, or
for the use, benefit, or support of any priest, preacher, minister,
or other religious teacher or dignitary, or sectarian institution as
such.

A Ryan Walters two-fer

Board members voice concern with new ranking of 50th in education

“When you look at education rankings, a lot of these are ridiculous,” said Supt. Walters, when asked about it after Thursday’s board meeting.

“They like to take into account how much money we put into education. That’s never been an evaluation of mine of what makes a good education system, it’s outcomes,” said Supt. Walters.

The rankings from WalletHub showed that Oklahoma ranked the lowest in several categories, including teacher-per-pupil, test scores, dropout rates, and more.

[Test scores and dropout rates are examples of outcomes. And teacher ratios are certainly a consequence of what OK is doing or not doing.]

REPORTS ALLEGE RYAN WALTERS DISPLAYED NUDE WOMEN ON OFFICE TV. BOARD MEMBER, LAWMAKERS REACT

Oklahoma lawmakers respond to allegations that Ryan Walters displayed nude women on his office TV during executive session.

Multiple Oklahoma lawmakers and a board member are responding to allegations involving State Superintendent Ryan Walters following Thursday’s State Board of Education meeting.

Two publications, including NonDoc, report that board members, Becky Carson and Ryan Deatherage, say that a video featuring naked women was displayed on a TV in Walters’ office during the meeting. Carson and Deatherage said they were the only ones seated in a position where they could see the screen.

On Saturday, a fellow board member released a statement sharing what he experienced during the executive session.

Chris Van Denhende, State Board of Education member, responded, saying,

"I have read the reporting from both the Oklahoman and NonDoc and have been quoted in the Tulsa World online article last night. I can confirm their reporting is accurate as to the facts," Van Denhende said. "The only thing I am still unable to confirm is exactly what was seen on the TV as the situation of my chair and the setup of the room did not allow me to see the TV. That said, I have no reason to doubt what Becky Carson and Ryan Deatherage have said," Van Denhende said. "Based on Superintendent Walters reaction when Becky called it to his attention something was being viewed that was not supposed to be on that TV."

So what? Aren't we told iver and over again that nudity is okay? That we shouldn't be shocked or offended by a nude person? I believe progressives often say that nudity in pictures or on tv in school is perfectly appropriate for older teens particularly. We are also told that men seeing women naked in locker rooms is just fine and the women shouldnt be offended in seeing a naked male.

Did you post this to challenge those who were concerned about the nudity? Or to challenge the fact there was nudity?

There is a time and place. The superintendent had pornography playing on his TV during a work meeting within view of some of the meeting attendees. This was inappropriate.

Then there is the superintendent's raging hypocrisy.

No just to poke fun at someone for obvious hypocrisy.

Ah.. that makes sense. And if its true he does deserve to be made fun of. He also deserves to be fired in my opinion. If indeed he was watching porn or some such on government equipment he should be let go. I'm sure there are policies against such things.

Fire the statisticians!
Expunge the data!
Place foxes in charge of henhouses!

'Reckless' OK schools chief promised 'serious changes' — and this might be the biggest yet

OKLAHOMA CITY — In a major departure from decades of state and federal policy, Oklahoma’s top education official said Friday his administration doesn’t plan to administer statewide reading and math tests this school year.

Instead, state Superintendent Ryan Walters suggested Oklahoma should collect data from benchmark assessments that individual school districts select and purchase from private vendors.

The plan requires permission from the U.S. Department of [WW]Ed, and Walters said he expects a “very, very quick” approval from the Trumpadministration.

For several years, Oklahoma’s state tests have found a majority of students performing below their grade level. This was the case last year even after the state lowered the standard for students to meet grade-level targets in reading and math.

This reminds me of growing up in Oklahoma. I was "blessed" (actually, my parents made sure of it before we moved there) to live in a community with excellent schools. The town I grew up in was headquarters to a major oil company, so the executives and scientists working at the oil company ensured the schools were very good and well funded.

So, when I took my ACT to get into college, I remember it being interesting, how I did as a percentage compared locally, statewide, and nationally. My local percentages were the lowest -- they were good schools and so the percentage showed that there were other very strong students with great scores. The national scores were next, they were about three percentage points higher than the local scores, showing that the students in my area, overall, scored well above the national average. However, the local Oklahoma percentages were by far the highest -- something close to 10 percentage points higher than the national average. The Oklahoma average scores were just that bad, even with my town adding scores that were higher than the national average. What's worse, at that point, Oklahoma had about the 42nd best schools in the nation, compared to the 50th best now; so they've gotten worse in the decades since I was in school.

Turns out the nekkid women were from a Jackie Chan movie Walters had on his TV. So no porn (just an R-rated movie) and the representatives were not making up lies. This does lead to the question of why Walters was streaming an action movie (with nekkid women) in his office during working hours. The investigation continues....
