Well, if all it takes is one resident, then there is nowhere in the US that is "crime free," so why bother?
If one mugging triggers martial law, we're not likely to ever not be under the jackboot.

Works for me. . .don't see the law as "jackboot," neither God's law nor the national laws of our republic.

What an "unfortunate" point of view. . .no doubt in agreement with the lawbreakers.

What is the acceptable number of crimes you can live with?

Not just "the law" but "martial law". Jackboot refers to military boots. I don't consider the imposition of martial law

I prefer law and order. . .and if that requres "authoritarianism," I'm all far it.
That's what lawful authority is for, to use when lawlessness gets out of hand.

That should be a no-brainer.

I'm not gonna make a federal case out of it, so why should federal law enforcement be involved?

The FBI does not need to be involved in my stolen car. They should probably be spending their time on ISIS or white supremacists aiming to strike at something more important than my car (nice as it is).

Law and order does not require authoritarianism, but apparently authoritarianism does require made up excuses to justify it. Deploying the military to intimidate the citizenry is expressly prohibited by the Constitution, yet our criminal president has done just that and has declared his intention to continue.
That should be a no-brainer.
Hmm...naw...biting my tongue on that one...^_^

No, we are looking at an excuse.

Why? Do you really believe that martial law is the solution to minor crime?

FBI dispatching agents to D.C. streets as Trump weighs calling National Guard

The deployment of FBI agents to deal with local crime puts agents from the bureau’s counterintelligence, public corruption and other divisions with minimal training in traffic stops out on the streets in potentially dangerous encounters, diverting them from their typical jobs at the bureau. And it comes as Trump is publicly portraying the city as rampant with violent crime — even as the mayor refutes that characterization, pointing to police data showing a drop in violent crime.

FBI agents generally do not have authority to make traffic stops, and the people said the agents’ roles could include supporting the other agencies during traffic stops.

The FBI also is dispatching agents from outside D.C., including Philadelphia, to help with the surge of federal law enforcement in the District, according to multiple people familiar with the plans

It's a good thing there are no spies or corrupt officials to worry about, and Philadelphia is safe as peaches.

Are you unaware that "minor" is the path to "major" crime?

Study how Mayor Giuliani so successfully reduced crime in NYC.

pffft.. overall crime is down a measly 32%, 25% this year.. Donnie's efforts will lower them 400%, 500%, maybe even 1500% ..

Is this what the residents want? Did anyone bother to ask?
This is interesting.

It appears that the liberals biggest argument turns out to be a lie. Yet again.

It destroyed the right's ability to comprehend the use of government for their benefit and turned government itself into the enemy. Now the only use left for it is the punishment of their enemies and the imposition of their will. Thanks for nothing Mr. Reagan.

He got elected at the right time (when crime was falling nation wide).

I dont understand. The vast majority of homeless people on the street either have drug addictions, mental illnesses, or both. Wouldn't you want them off the street and in institutions where they received treatment, food, and shelter while simultaneously ensuring their safety and the safety of the public? Liberals want to defund the police and send social workers instead of cops. Why not a compromise in which the cops are sent to bring them to the social workers?

Where are you getting these social workers from? TrumpDogeCo just axed funding for a bunch of stuff like that.

Regardless, for being the people's capital, it is not a good place to live.

I guess that's why property values are so low.

/s

I will give you that..

It has been some years since I was there. Maybe it has changed. I had some business nearby and after that was ended my wife flew up so we could spend a few days in DC.

I remember we were going to see the Naval Observatory (VP's house) and I found a shortcut on the map. Wow - burned out cars. abandoned buildings, thugs hanging around on the street corners. It literally looked like we were in another city or in another part of the world. A few blocks later, everything was back to normal again. But, I admit I've never ran as many stop signs as I did in those few blocks. Needless to say, we did not go back to the hotel that way.

One of those things where when it was nice, it was very nice. But, when it was bad, it was very bad.

lol, what's "some years"? 30? 40?

Washington DC should be the most crime free pristine area in America.

The parts with the federal buildings are.

This is interesting.

It appears that the liberals biggest argument turns out to be a lie. Yet again.
It would appear that, within the DCPD, somebody is retaliating against somebody else. Maybe they are juking their stats; maybe they aren't and that's merely retaliation for the EEOC complaint.

Either way, The Wire already addressed this subject:

DC's homicides are also down 30%.

Oddly, crime went down by approximately the same amount in most major US cities meaning that Giuliani's tactic of trampling citizens' rights based on race/ethnicity, gender, age and neighborhood traumatized a generation of young men for no good reason.

Oh, I think it had the result Guiliani and his backers wanted. See for example the precursor that lead to his election:
