Starting tonight, there will be no safe harbor for violent criminals in D.C.,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said. “President Trump is committed to making our Nation’s capital safer for its residents, lawmakers, and visitors from all around the world.”

At least some sanity is restored in Washington.

Well, somebody has to do it.
Thank God he stepped up to the job.

Violent Crime in D.C. Hits 30 Year Low

Total violent crime for 2024 in the District of Columbia is down 35% from 2023 and is the lowest it has been in over 30 years, according to data collected by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and announced by United States Attorney Matthew M. Graves.

In addition to the overall violent crime reduction, homicides are down 32%; robberies are down 39%; armed carjackings are down 53%; assaults with a dangerous weapon are down 27% when compared with 2023 levels, with the District reporting the fewest assaults with dangerous weapons and burglaries in over 30 years.

Violent crimes are down by 25% in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, as the downward trend continues.

Then the patrols won't have too much work cut out for them. And residents will feel safer anyways.

Hmmm...

I'm not sure if this has been posted here or not. But it sounds like an early trial run for implementation of this executive order..

Not sure if he'll start with the rounding up of the homeless part of the order yet or not though..

Is this what the residents want? Did anyone bother to ask?

And it is still one of the most violent cities in the United States.

I dont understand. The vast majority of homeless people on the street either have drug addictions, mental illnesses, or both. Wouldn't you want them off the street and in institutions where they received treatment, food, and shelter while simultaneously ensuring their safety and the safety of the public? Liberals want to defund the police and send social workers instead of cops. Why not a compromise in which the cops are sent to bring them to the social workers?

Regardless, for being the people's capital, it is not a good place to live.

I will give you that..

It has been some years since I was there. Maybe it has changed. I had some business nearby and after that was ended my wife flew up so we could spend a few days in DC.

I remember we were going to see the Naval Observatory (VP's house) and I found a shortcut on the map. Wow - burned out cars. abandoned buildings, thugs hanging around on the street corners. It literally looked like we were in another city or in another part of the world. A few blocks later, everything was back to normal again. But, I admit I've never ran as many stop signs as I did in those few blocks. Needless to say, we did not go back to the hotel that way.

One of those things where when it was nice, it was very nice. But, when it was bad, it was very bad.

The homeless are undesirable looking. From the article they would get long time care. I'm guessing a nice looking building on the outside. And cheap behind the ndoors, since tax payers have to pay for it. So, if you're taking a quick walk. You better look desirable. My aunt is no better. She thinks the homeless should be deported. So, she doesn't have to see their tents. She lives in the mountains. I see homeless people more than her.

That question was answered in the outcome of the election.
Isn’t the administration of the District of Columbia under the purview of the Congress?
When did Congress ask the President to “help”?

That's between him and Congress. . .are you sure Congress would not vote in favor of it?

Why would Congress not be in favor of cleaning things up?
