Cannabis is trouble, just like the cartels. With large sums of money more people fall.
The trouble here is extortion not the legal buisness being extorted.

Tompkins, 67, was indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts of Extortion Under Color of Official Right, the Justice Department announced.

From what I read, the Sheriff is in trouble. The type of business extorted is irrelevant.

Is this just poor reading comprehension on your part or do you really prefer to blame victims?

idk, but it was probably made out of hemp and smelled like patchouli.

now that I think about it, maybe they did deserve it.

You'll have to show your math on that one...

I'm still of the mindset that for a substance, if the prohibition status (and all of the black market crime that goes with it) is more dangerous than the effect of the substance itself, then we shouldn't be demonizing the substance.

For example, if they made pizza illegal, and as a result, you had to drive to a dangerous neighborhood to get it, from an unreputable source, and it was all being produced and provided by a criminal enterprise, it wouldn't be a fair critique to say "See, I told you that Pizza stuff was trouble! Little Johnny died from eating contaminated pizza, and his friend got shot by one of the pizza dealers"

Same applies here...

Regular old cannabis itself isn't any riskier or more dangerous than alcohol, the thing that made it dangerous was the drive over to a sketchy part of Cleveland to buy it and the kinds of unreputable characters that were selling it. Once you got it home to the suburbs for you and your buddies to take a few hits and watch some South Park, you were to the safe part of the experience.

Unlike heroin, where it's the actual consumption that's the most dangerous part.
