Doners paid for this, not tax payers. Might as well have have a cow every time doners provide funds for a new museum or new wing in a museum.

I hope the donors feel that this was the best use of their money.

Oh brother, the melodramatic untrue nonsense the left cranks out. It's hard to believe you take it seriously.

The doners are wealthy socialites who probably are also philanthropists.

More interested in making a bit of a point rather than a personal jab. Also there are opulent Protestant cathedrals as well.

The Berliner Dom Protestant Cathedral in Berlin.
Well they are constructed to honor God and lift the spirit, after all.

But I am a low church kind of guy. It is too easy to get carried away in the material things.

I am reminded of a story.
Anyone remember the movie Brother Sun, Sister Moon?
An emperor was coming and Francis was asked, what should we say to him,
What can we say to an emperor or a president surrounded in wealth?

Francis says, "You could tell him to throw his scepter in the mud or fling his jewels in the river. Then he could see the glow of new colors amidst the glistening pebbles. And you could say, 'Otto of Brunswick, let the birds nest in your crown. Let the winds of heaven blow through your empty palaces. What good is your life to you if your riches bring you no peace of mind? And all your people starve?"

I was responding to talk of money going towards architecture rather than the hungry.

Same gaudy garbage, different continents. Ugh.

what kind of ball room doesn't have movable partition walls or an open ceiling grid for lights?

Has it actually been paid for, including the relocations of the offices?

Interesting take from Mona Charen of The Bulwark

But rather than rail against this desecration of a key national symbol, perhaps it’s better to welcome it. The presidency will never be the same post-Trump, so why not the White House? Why not make concrete and visible the destruction of centuries-old norms and values? This president has just elevated to a Court of Appeals a lawyer who presided over a purge of FBI agents who investigated Trump for January 6th and instructed his underlings at the Justice Department to “[Screw] the courts.”

And regular Trump supporters. I don't donate to political parties. And I would be mad if my money was waisted on this. So, I'm glad Trump supporters paid for this. A lot of waisted tax money goes to the rich. Even though they try to take much needed money away from programs for the poor.

Oh look, insults. What a surprise.

How do you know? Have you seen the donor list and amounts?

How could your money be wasted on it, when you donated money for it?

I thought a ball room was for dancing but of all the pictures posted in this thread there only tables and chairs.

Cindarella would be dissapointed, that`s for sure.

Well, except for one picture with carpets on the floor.

So let's see the big complaint is Trump going from outdoor tents to an indoor room. And from chairs and tables on a lawn to chairs and tables on a patio. This is almost as big of an outrage as when plumbing and electricity were installed in the White House.

Was this really supposed to be more practical?:

One that's in a 1792 mansion rather than one that's in a 2025 convention center.
