President Trump said Friday he had ordered two nuclear submarines moved closer to Russia in response to “highly provocative statements” by a top Kremlin official.

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, now deputy chairman of the Security Council of Russia, had taunted Trump directly in a recent post on X, saying “each new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war.”

I would suspect nobody actually moved.

Ballistic missile submarines should already be patrolling the necessary regions as part of normal operations.

They spend their "free" time locating places to hide if the DEFCON level is raised because unnecessary prowling around when enemy sub-hunting is actually going on is how you "get got."

They get the alert, they retreat to a pre-mapped hidey-hole, and have a protocol to follow after that. They don't go to entirely new regions and just meander.

....that's been the Russia line ever since they invaded Ukraine. It's time to call their bluff. (not with nuclear weapons, of course). I doubt Trump will. Or maybe he will surprise us and back his BIG WORDS with some actions of consequence?

Russia Issues Nuclear Warning Directed at US and NATO​

Russia said Monday it is no longer bound by a self‑imposed moratorium on deploying land‑based intermediate‑range nuclear missiles, blaming United States and NATO plans to station similar weapons in Europe and the Asia‑Pacific.

The Russian Foreign Ministry accused Washington of escalating tensions by testing, producing and moving systems once banned under the defunct Intermediate‑Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty.

The U.S. and Russia signed the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces treaty (INF) in 1987, but the U.S. withdrew from it in 2019, during President Donald Trump's first term, while accusing Russia of repeatedly violating the agreement.
