Now here’s an interesting sequence of events:
- July 24, 2025: A Vatican court denies an appeal by Libero Milone, the Vatican’s former auditor general, dismissing his claim that he was wrongfully fired because he uncovered evidence of widespread financial corruption. Milone has threatened to make that evidence public if his appeal is ignored.
- July 29, 2025: The Pillar obtains a memo in which the late Cardinal George Pell reported evidence of “potentially illegal” bank transactions at APSA, the Vatican’s investment fund, and asked Milone, as auditor, to investigate. The questionable transfers would lend support to reports of money-laundering.
