Historic Poll Devastates Democrats: Worst Voter Approval Rating in 35 Years

If you’ve been paying attention to the news lately, you must be thinking that the Democrats are cruising to a 2026 midterm bonanza.
After all, we’ve got that “MAGA civil war” over the Iran attacks. (Except that kind of went away once the Iran attacks went well.) Now we have “MAGA civil war” over the Epstein files. (Which will probably go away now that the Trump administration is making transparency on the dead sex trafficker and financier a priority.)
And, of course, you have that Big Beautiful Bill, which — we were all reliably informed — was going to kill millions — if not billions or even trillions — of seniors instantly the moment it was passed because of health care cuts. (Haven’t seen the data on that yet, but when have the Democrats ever been wrong when they’ve fallen back on shrill messaging that fiscal continence and reasonable budgetary priorities mean “people will die?”)
Actually, they’re doing worse than ever. And I don’t mean that in a hyperbolic way: Literally, the Democratic Party is at its lowest point in The Wall Street Journal’s history of party-approval polling, which dates back to 1990.
That 30 percent gap is the highest ever recorded by the publication — and its down nine points since April, when the party had a negative 21 percent gap.

The TV news I watch--which isn't all that much--tells me just the opposite. Caught a show on MSNBC recently where Steve Kornacki was explaining why the Republicans appeared to have a lock on the midterms.

They have done absolutely nothing useful since Trump was elected. They deserve the spot they're in

The only solution put forth so far, AFAIK, is to become visibly angry. That's the "genius" plan.

With ideas like this (or lack of), it's not a wonder why voters are leary.

Terrific, right? Conservatives like to congratulate themselves that dropping poll numbers are evidence that Democratic voters are embracing the culture war issues of the Right, but no--they're just disgusted with the Democratic Party.

Why are they disgusted? Isn't it because the party Isn't angry enough?

Picking on either side is like shooting fish in a barrel.
If you're saying that your own party is as bad as the Repubs, then you're the kind of person I really need to talk to.

Please tell me why you think that, and what kind of solutions need to happen

Democrats need to grow a spine.

I have a hard time imagining what that entails. I know I've seen protesters on the highway overpasses doing demonstrations, and politicians in their respective positions vote against everything Donald Trump, so going further, in my perspective, means physical fighting.

If physical confrontation cannot be ruled out by the neo-democrats, then.....The neo-democrats should be expelled from the party IMO, on account of them being a threat to national stability.

...And politicians can indeed be expelled from the party.

I don't know if I'd say the Democratic Party is as bad as the GOP, exactly. Not much better, perhaps, though that isn't saying much.

My feeling is that democrats need to prioritize people over money, and working people over corporations. The monied interests have the GOP to look out for their interests specifically and exclusively, so someone needs to stick up for every one else. The Democratic Party purports to do that, and in the past did a better job of it. That's where the focus needs to be now, more than ever.

Democrats need to grow a spine.
This is also very much true. Objecting to Trump and his policies is fine, and legitimate objections needs to be voiced, but that should not replace actual governance. Real, effective legislation should be proposed to fight the most egregious of those policies, and if Congress is unable to pass these bills, then Democrats need to pound the pavement and get the public to demand their voices be heard. If Democrats can create legislation that Americans actually need, and would benefit from, then the support will be there.

Not every American has taken the Trump Kool Aid. These voices need to also be heard, and Democrats need to focus on that, and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

-- A2SG, something the party hasn't always been particularly good at, but they need to get better....cuz the GOP has....

The Democratic party has done everything it possibly can, including:

  • 298 active cases challenging Trump administration actions
  • 12 suits by the Trump administration challenging state or local laws
  • 46 suits by pllaintiffs or appeals closed
  • 14 Supreme Court stays or order to vacate lower court orders
  • 1 Supreme Court affirmation of lower court order
  • 7 suits where judges ruled for the federal government
  • 22 suits where judges ruled against federal government

I'm just surprised they still exist. Haven't heard anything from them except impotent flayling.
So what do you want them to do?
