The motives of the conclave in selecting Robert Prevost as pope appear to be continuity with Pope Francis's approach as well as unity within the global church. So the church will continue to reach out and build bridges. Since he is a dual national American-Peruvian one immediate bridge is that between North & South America.

His appointment highlights some interesting tensions between the church and the Trump Administration.
1) Stewardship of the environment
2) Immigration
3) Poverty

The first Pope Leo dissuaded Attila the Hun from sacking Rome I wonder how this one will interact with Trump?

He seems the exact opposite of Trump, humble , intelligent, good listener, compassionate, soft spoken, etc.

How can you associate the anti-Christ with the new pope or even indeed with Trump? The Anti-Christ is the political beast and the false prophet is a more religious acolyte. This pope is not an acolyte for Trump and Trump is doing things that are a mixed bag from a Christian point of view:

War on Woke virus - good
Allowing states to decide abortion laws and lack of support for "family planning" around the world - good
Defence of Christians in other states. good
Concern for the poor and sick - bad
Breaking alliances and eroding world stability - bad
Stewardship of creation - bad

When a married priest from the Church of England,
becomes a Catholic priest,
he is allowed to stay married.

A small number of Catholic priests
have a pregnant wife.

I am hopeful that just as Pope John Paul II assisted President Ronald Reagan in the plan of God to break down the Iron Curtain so also Pope Leo will cooperate with President Trump in the plan of God to break down the Bamboo Curtain.

The Trump Tariffs on China seem to be scaring the leadership of the Communist Party of China and thus they may be able to calm Xi down from his goals for China, to seemingly surpass the USA as the number one economic and military superpower.

I am hopeful that the oppressive government of China may soon give citizens much more freedom. The Trump Tariffs on my nation Canada seemed to immediately result in the Canadian government doing more to stop the smuggling of drugs into the USA. It seems like Canada is becoming tougher on crime as well. Perhaps that was one of the major goals of the Trump Tariffs?

I admit that I could not figure out what the Trump Tariffs were directed toward at first but after a few months they began to make at least some sense.
