Here's a woman athlete's response.

View attachment 367697

Prevalence of sexual harassment and abuse in U.S. Olympic and Paralympic sports:

  • A 2024 survey found that nearly 11% (10.9%) of athletes reported experiencing unwanted sexual contact or sexually explicit behaviors during their sports involvement.
  • Over two in five (43.3%) of those unwanted experiences occurred while the athletes were minors.
  • Coaches or assistant coaches were the most commonly reported perpetrators of non-consensual sexual touching.
  • More than 3% (3.5%) of athletes reported experiencing rape or attempted rape during their sports involvement, with peers being the most common perpetrators.
  • Athletes with disabilities were more likely to have been subjected to unwanted kissing and attempted or completed rape compared to athletes without disabilities.
  • Athletes who identify as a sexuality other than heterosexual/straight were more likely to have experienced unwanted sexual touching.

But preventing ONE biological man competing in woman sports is the priority for today's conservative!

In 2024, only one athlete who identified as transgender competed in Paris. But changing this rule is indeed a major victory for some!

Something seriously wrong with our society when we celebrate policies with no real impact on every day human while serious issues continue to grow worldwide.

  • 30% of women globally experience sexual assault.
  • 197 out of every 1,000 women die from maternal mortality.
  • There are 4.4 million more women than men worldwide living on less than $1.90 per day.
  • 2 billion women around the world lack access to health care.

But yea, it is a major victory for women that finely USOPC do not allow transgender women to compete in woman sports.

One would think that not allowing men to compete in women's sports would be simple common sense. But you are sadly mistaken if you believe that this only affects a handful of people.

There was a time not all that long ago where schools that refused to address "discrimination" against transgender students were at risk of losing their federal funding. If little Johnny suddenly decides he wanted to be known as little Susie, the school must then allow him to use the restroom and locker room of his choice and play on the girls teams. This isn't quite as rare as you might think. But what's crazy is that while this represents a fraction of a fraction of a percent of people as you rightly pointed out, the rest of the world is being told they must abide this or face the consequences. That's why this is a victory. No longer can a single student potentially hold an entire school district's funding hostage because one day they decide they're not the gender they were born as.

All that means is that while 26% female students in collage are getting sexually assaulted, todays republican party worry more about 10 biological male winning swimming competition. Wrong priority !
Okay so biological males should be allowed to beat out women in women's athletics, until sexual assaults against women are stopped.

Consider that Riley Gaines has turned this whole trans athlete issue into a much more lucrative career for herself than swimming could ever be for any athlete. She’s likely make more money than Michael Phelps and she doesn’t even have to swim or compete anymore.

Why are you trying to pretend that these things are in any way related? You're acting as if because men aren't allowed to compete in women's sports that means that no one cares about sexual harassment. That's pretty illogical.

Ah. But she is a woman, which we were told in post two was important for opining on this topic. And she is also a collegiate athlete, who had to deal with the repercussions of this firsthand.

If you were a female collegiate athlete and had worked your entire life to hone your skills and be competitive, how would you feel if a male, who could only place 554th when competing with others of the same gender, suddenly joined the women's team and took away what you'd worked for?

I don't think Riley Gaines asked for this fight. I think all she wanted to do was compete in her sport with other women. But because she was thrust to the center of this controversy, I don't blame her one bit for taking a stand.

Is she still swimming competitively?

I accept the issue that you are referring to. Today only ONE out of over ten thousand athletes is transgender, and this number will increase in the future.

Given the various challenges faced globally and by women in the USA and elsewhere, do you consider the issue of which athletes compete in women's sports to be a priority?

I have no idea. I don't follow Riley Gaines very closely.

I'm curious as to your thoughts on Lia Thomas. How do you feel about a biological male that finished 554th when competing with other biological males finishing 5th when competing with biological females? Do you think that's fair to women athletes?

"A" priority? Yes. The number one priority? No. But I think this issue is far more impactful than you are portraying for the reasons I've already stated.

In the 2024 Olympics in Paris, only one out of 10,400 athletes is a transgender woman, representing 0.0096%.

In the United States, out of 544,000 college athletes, only 10 are transgender, making up 0.0018%.

When the President of the United States issues an executive order to address an issue affecting only 0.0018% of the population, it may suggest that other priorities are being overlooked.

When Americans and major political parties focus on an issue affecting only 0.0018% of people, it suggests they are neglecting more pressing problems.

When the President of the United States issues an executive order to address an issue affecting only 0.0018% of the population...

You keep saying that, but it's just not true. Just because only 0.0018% of the population identifies as transgender does not mean that only 0.0018% of the population is affected by their actions. In realty, ALL of the women competing are affected by allowing biological males to compete with them. Males that might only be good enough to place below 500 if they were competing with other males will suddenly rocket up the rankings to 5th, or maybe higher. And all the women who have worked hard to be competitive in their sport now have to accept that they not only have to beat out all the other women, but they also might have to be better than a handful of biological males as well if they want to win.

Again, you are correct that this is an extremely small number of athletes, but allowing a single biological male to compete with women affects all women competing in that sport.

No woman should be forced to compete with a biological male. On the other hand, in niche cases where the participants, their supporters and the league are down with it, why does the federal government need to step in to prevent it?

In 2024, the NCAA had 554,000 athletes. Even if all of these athletes were women, they would represent only about 0.15% of the U.S. population.

but sure the new conservatism is about solving REAL problem. Man in woman sprots!

What more pressing problems in women's athletics are being overlooked?
