Well, to be fair, in this instance, they're not usurping anything...they're exercising constitutional authority.
I have no doubt that it has some political motivations, but what doesn't these days.
She didn't get the senate confirmation (thus the reason why she was an interim US Attorney instead of full-fledged).
Her tenure was marked with contentious decisions (and the fact that she used to be Trump's personal lawyer)
And Interim US District Attorneys are only guaranteed 120 days, at which point, it is up to the district judges whether or not to extend or replace with another Interim US DA.
And in fairness to the judges, their selection was Habba's #2, Desiree Grace... so it wasn't a complete "political hatchet job"...if so, they would've picked a leftist to replace Habba.
Desiree Grace has a lot of experience, and has worked for 3 different Trump nominees/appointees...and then Bondi decided to announce that Grace would be removed.
So it's the Trump admin playing politics on this one.
The reason why Habba's position wasn't "locked in" was because she couldn't get through the senate confirmation process. The judges actually picking her #2 as her replacement should actually be viewed as a olive branch, not a declaration of war. They could've just as easily picked a far-left DA to replace her if they wanted to.
