Alina Habba Makes 'Emotional' Move After Shattering Morale In U.S. Attorney's Office, Sources Tell NYT

The Trump-appointed U.S. attorney's chaotic stint may have resulted in her preemptive act.

Trump’s former defense attorney admitted in a staff meeting last week that she “was unlikely to be appointed by the judges and offered an emotional, pre-emptive farewell,” according to NYT.

While in the U.S. attorney’s office, Habba boasted of her access to the White House despite claiming she is “not political,” sources told the newspaper.

Habba, who was previously appointed by Trump to serve as counselor to the president, also faces her own potential courtroom drama. She was sued by Newark Mayor Ras Barakafor false arrest, malicious prosecution and defamation after his appearance May 9 to protest an immigration detention center in Newark.

[That charge was dropped, but Habba has also pursued charges against Rep. McIver.]

Pam Bondi fires U.S. attorney whom N.J. judges had named to replace Trump ally Alina Habba

Desiree Leigh Grace was named U.S. attorney for New Jersey, according to an order the chief judge for the District of New Jersey, Renee Marie Bumb, signed Tuesday. The order means judges declined to extend Habba’s interim role, which expires after 120 days [without Senate confirmation to a permanent position]. Trump appointed Habba on March 24, and she was sworn in on March 28.

[I understand that Grace was appointed by Habba as her first assistant.]

But Bondi said that Grace "has just been removed" and that the "Department of Justice does not tolerate rogue judges — especially when they threaten the President’s core Article II powers."

Grace was fired by the Justice Department, a source familiar with the matter told NBC News

The plan is to reinstall Habba in the position in some capacity, as the administration did with the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York, but no specific method has been established yet, the person said.

Good grief.
They fired the new prosecutor who had been in that office doing that work for over 9 years because Bondi has a tissyfit the NJ judges passed over the unqualified parking lot lawyer with no experience what so ever.

Plot thickens further, now described as chunky.

Judges’ pick to be new US attorney in NJ vows to take office despite being fired by Justice Department

Desiree Leigh Grace, a top prosecutor fired by the Justice Department Tuesday after she was tapped by the federal judges in the state to replace Habba, is vowing to take over the job “in accordance with the law.”

To do so, Grace would have to be sworn in by a federal judge just after midnight Friday when Habba ceases to be US attorney – and defy Attorney General Pam Bondi who ousted her from her job as New Jersey’s first assistant US attorney.

If Grace assumes the job, the president could fire her.

The department could still outmaneuver the judges by having Habba leave before midnight Friday and appointing a new interim US attorney, a move they’ve used in other cases.

[From Grace herself] “I’ve served under both Republican and Democratic administrations. I’ve been promoted four times in the last five years by both — including four months ago by this administration. Politics never impacted my work at the Department.”

And now a little do-si-do

White House maneuver keeps Habba as top NJ prosecutor

One day before Alina Habba’s tenure as the interim U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey was set to expire, the White House withdrew her nomination for the post.

Habba then announced on social media that she is now the acting United States Attorney, seemingly restarting the clock

The Trump administration’s move to pull Habba’s nomination and then install her in an acting capacity appears to take advantage of a section of the Federal Vacancies Reform Act, which allows an acting officer to serve in a position for no more than 210 days if no one is nominated to the position.

More evidence the trump administration could care less about our judicial system.

....the good people of New Jersey better hope they don't need the services of a professional U.S. Attorney.

No, they care but they are trying to make it subservient to the presidency. They want it to work fist in glove for the goals of the Donald.

For sure.
