I thought Disney was to woke for Republicans. BTW, rides where close down just for the vice president family. How fair is that for the rest of the costumers.

Meh, normal for VIPs. I hope that they had fun and didn’t throw up.

Eh? People can put politics aside and still enjoy a vacation? I dunno.

It's a free country.

Among our first amendment rights are the right to free speech and the right to peaceably assemble, and the right to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

These people had grievances against the government and peaceably assembled to speak about them.
I don't recall anyone claiming they shouldn't be allowed to do it...

I guess some people are just scratching their heads trying to figure out what exactly they were seeking to accomplish.

Typically, one would expect a protest to have some sort of tangible goal, or at least a tenuous connection to a new policy they want created, or some policy they want removed. (something that should be relatively actionable)

Just showing up to say "We hate JD Vance" isn't so much a real protest as it is Festivus-style "airing of grievances", and statements like "we don't want Vice President in our state" certainly isn't anything actionable.

I think general non specific disapproval thats strong enough to get people off the couch is worth showing.

So if policy makers were looking to meet with the leader of this group of protestors to get their enumerated list of specific demands, who would they ask to speak with?

I doubt this was any kind of organized protest with leadership and stated goals. More just general dislike and disapproval of JD being expressed. The replies to this thread have had more effort put into them than seen from any of the protesters at Disneyland.

This does not appear to be an very organized protest. And thats fine. I'm sure there are plenty of organizations the veep people could contact for specifics. I like this general expression of disapproval a lot better than nothing.

So my original assessment was correct

Did they have a "feats of strength" after the protest?

Seems like a waste of time...

the article mentioned that some of those folks drove 4 hours on a work day to be there....

Seems like a lot of effort for something that isn't adding anything new to the public discourse (as anything they may be saying/chanting has already been said ad nauseum by almost every mainstream outlet for the last 3 weeks)

Plus, they're doing it in the amen corner of the country with regards to their grievance... In an overwhelming blue area of a blue state. I believe the saying for that is "preaching to the converted"

It'd be like if, during a democratic administration when they were trying to push assault weapons bans, a staunch pro gun person drove 4 hours to protest against a democrat outside of a hotel in an overwhelmingly red suburb of Houston, TX.

It'd be like "okay, but you realize you're not changing any minds here... everyone in this area already agrees with you, and you're not giving them any new information they didn't already have"

I certainly wouldnt drive 4 hours! to do this.

But as for judging wastes of time, why in the world are you even spending 5 precious minutes on this. Heck, why am I?

Because I enjoy discussion and debate lol...so it's a "me" thing...

Which, we may be hitting on something here...

Perhaps these folks have an enjoyment of "protesting" that matches (or even exceeds) their passion about the actual issues.

There are people like that, I've mentioned my cousin before, she'll go to pretty much any left-leaning protest/gathering/advocacy meet-up because that's pretty much her social network as without going to those sort of things, she wouldn't have a social life.

People who use political stances in place of a personality in order to facilitate a sense of "belonging" and to be part of a social circle, for lack of a better way to put it.

There was a game I had for my first computer (an Apple //gs) whose name I don't remember and I think was some sort of shareware I got in the mail, and when your game ended (you lost) a (relatively) booming electronic voice would say:

"It's official -- You suck."

JD just needs a reminder every once and a while. :)
