Essayli said Caravello was charged with “a violation of 18 USC 111,” for allegedly “assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers or employees,” according to federal law. The US attorney also denied claims that the educator was “kidnapped” by federal agents.

Again I urge leaders on the left to tone down the rhetoric and protest peacefully. The government had a valid warrant, file a lawsuit if you think they did something wrong but please don't interfere and put people's lives in danger.

Where is it alleged that someone (who?) put the idea into the alleged canister-thrower to throw the canister?

Oh wait I found the “goods”,
OP said:
As the escalation continued, agents deployed tear gas among the protestors to disperse them. Caravello was allegedly caught on an agent’s body camera footage attempting to “kick the canister,” but missed.

“Caravello turned around, ran towards the canister, picked it up, and threw the canister overhand back at BP agents,” the complaint claims.

“A BP Agent reported that the canister was thrown at law enforcement and recalls that the canister came within approximately several feet above law enforcement’s heads.”

It seems that the professor was being “resourceful” and threw the gas-canister back from whence it came.
At people who had deployed it, and who brought gas masks with them.

Such an act can result in assault charges. Everyone should have respect for those who uphold the law. Delaying officers can stop someone who needs help from getting the assistance they need.

We agree that what the professor did was probably a(n) (alleged) crime…what I question was that someone instigated him to do so.

Funny how they can gas the public no problem but it’s somehow assault when you direct that same gas canister back at them.

Funny how a police officer is allowed to tackle me when when I'm fleeing a bank robbery with a bag of cash, but I'm not allowed to tackle them back.

I also found it odd that the last time I was pulled over, they were able to make me show my license and proof of insurance, but said "No" when I asked him to show me their drivers license.

Civilians should be allowed to do everything cops can do, right?

This guy looks completely stable, and totally doesn't look like the kind of person who collects toenail clippings in jars at home.

Just a funny observation how standard police procedures magically become assault when directed at police.

In this other article I'm reading from SFGate, it's saying that people from his university have been calling in and filing "missing persons" reports for him.

Claiming he was "kidnapped by unidentified people”

Yet, in the very same article they show the agents:

All of them are wearing the appropriate insignias.

He looks like an IT guy who was told "smile".
is he actually a computer science professor? I didn't look up to see what kind of professor he was.

Back when I was in college, all of the CS professors and instructors were still 80's & 90's nerds so they all kind of looked like different variations of Anthony Michael Hall.

He teaches math and philosophy, so, equally ill-groomed. :)

My CS professor for CS101 and 102 courses loved baseball. Always did his lecture in a Yankees hat and held a baseball bat. Unfortunately questions in his exams needed an understanding of baseball rules which I did not have at the time.

We got to redo them.
