For those who do not have Prime, "The Chosen" has its' own online channel:

And anyone who does not watch it is is missing out on quite an event. Don't take it as one of these many christian films, that while accurate, leaves much to be desired as to its' directing and acting participants. It is a first class film, well directed, produced and acted as well as in addition to biblical narration.

Please post any comments you may have on this film.

I am surprised there is not more discussion here. I think it is pretty good. It provides possible contexts that give it more background. And while a lot of it is non "Biblical" and probably not historical it puts us there, like a historical novel.

I've only seen the John 3 scene. It was fine for what it was, but I'd like to to watch the whole show someday. I feel like Paul's teaching 'whether false or not, Christ is taught', so some one may be reached, is important for items we should recognize as strictly entertainment.

The call of Simon. Peter: The fictional context is that he is desperate. He owes so much tax (probably like so many) that he fishes all night on the Sabbath in hopes of coming up with something to give the tax collector (Matthew). But he catches nothing. He fears losing his home and going to prison. he is despondent and without hope coming back to shore. It is then that he meets this strange preacher and is told to cast again. He is reluctant and skeptical. Upon seeing the great catch he falls to his knees.

The narrative goes on to include this tension between Simon Peter and Matthew.

Not in scripture but possible and entertaining. It gives personality to the characters an lets us enter more fully into the narrative.
