From January to March, the CPI price for a dozen eggs has climbed from 4.95 dollars to 6.23 dollars.

So? They were climbing before that too. Were you one of those folks that believed Trump had a magic wand to wave around and suddenly make the bird flu and it's effects magically disappear? I pictured you not being that type.

Of course not. After all, Trump claimed that he would do it, so I was automatically sceptical.

Ah, well join the club because the vast majority of us who voted for him also knew he had no such wand and that it would take time.
My problem is that not only aren't the issues instantly solved, nor are they improving, nor are they staying as they are, nor are they only worsening, but the speed at which the issues are worsening appears to be accelerating.

But apparently that's just a sign that recovery is guaranteed. And of course at the same time in a far, not yet discernible future.

Higher prices are now good and paying them is an act of patriotism.
Oh, say, can you see
By the dawn's early light
Eggs so proudly we laid
At the chicken's last gleaming?

....and others believe the President has very little control over prices in a free market environment. I never imagined a REPUBLICAN president would impose 10-130% taxes on the things we buy.

I never thought that the Republicans would take a failed Democrat business man, re brand him as a Republican, and run against his friend in 2016 either.

Profits tripled....never let a good crisis go unexpolited.

The US’s largest egg producer has reported soaring profits as consumer prices hit record highs thanks to avian flu – and alleged price-fixing which is being investigated by the Department of Justice.

Cal-Maine’s profits more than tripled compared with the same quarter last year – and are nearly eight times as high as at the start of the bird flu outbreak in February 2022, according to financial results published on Tuesday.

The company, which produces 20% of the eggs eaten in the US, made $1bn in windfall income in the first three-quarters of the financial year – the profits extracted after accounting for production, processing and transport costs.

There's a whole corner of their big tent for folks who couldn't hack it on the left. It's kind of like the kid's table, but for billionaires and those who aspire to become one.

Hmm... well it looks like this candidates Justice Dept is looking into this. Might be interesting. What's the law against price gouging?
well I know there are some, but I believe they are more for emergencies, like during the pandemic, I don't think egg shortage counts, unless your a pastry chef hehe.

I know Kamala wanted to try to put some limits on how much companies could upcharge, least for esential goods.

But he's been in office for less than 3 months. That's practically an entire 4 year term.

Were they compensated by insurance for the killed chickens? That might account for some of the lack of loss...

Egg prices across the United States have come down from their peak, but are still half again more expensive as they were through 2024.

One might have thought bird flu was the reason, but Trump has decided to blame California.

Trump administration sues California over cage-free egg and animal welfare law

  • The federal suit claims that California’s animal welfare law has contributed to higher egg prices by “imposing unnecessary red tape on the production of eggs.”
[Red tape? There were certainly costs involved in changing production from tiny cages to something more humane (if an egg producer wasn't humane already) when the law was passed by voters seven years ago. But red tape?]

The law was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2023.

“In a functioning democracy, policy choices like these usually belong to the people and their elected representatives,” wrote Justice Neil M. Gorsuch, a Trump appointee, in the lead opinion.

Just last month, the Supreme Court declined to accept a petition for certiorari from the Iowa Pork Producers Council.

In the suit filed Wednesday, the Justice Department contends that California’s egg standards “do not advance consumer welfare”

[Well, that's why it was posed to voters as an animal welfare law and not a consumer welfare law. Despite the almighty dollar, voters are allowed to have other concerns.]

Most experts pointed to the H5N1 bird flu epidemic as the cause of the spike, as millions of egg-laying chickens across the nation were euthanized to prevent the spread.

Prices have since moderated as the outbreak has diminished. In the last 30 days, there has been only one reported commercial flock infection in Pennsylvania. The birds were not egg layers.

[And your peculiar mixed metaphor for the day]: “With this ill-considered legal action, the Administration is dropping a set of stink bombs into the bosom of the egg industry,” said Wayne Pacelle, president of Animal Wellness Action and the Center for a Humane Economy.

Yea, that's it. We need to lock up those "cage-free" egg layers.

Love me some states rights.
